We are seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to join our Information Technology department in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This role can be either on-site or hybrid (remote/on-site). Not 100% remote.
The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for operating and maintaining the US Signal internal infrastructure.
Functions/Responsibilities:
- Assist in research, design, development, documentation, maintenance, and security of US Signal’s Windows Server infrastructure.
- Support the applications running on the Windows Servers including MS SQL, Great Plains Dynamics, File Sharing, Active Directory Domain Services, Terminal Services, etc.
- Assist in research, design, development, documentation, maintenance, and security of US Signal’s Network, storage and server infrastructure.
- Assist in research, design, development, documentation, maintenance, and security of US Signal’s Microsoft 365 environment.
- Responsible for administration and support of the Cisco Call Manager
- Responsible for backup, restore and disaster recovery planning of the Windows and Cisco Phone System infrastructure.
- Maintain a highly available Windows and Cisco Phone System infrastructure.
- Document all procedures and installs of new products.
- Work in a team environment to ensure that all development activities are done in a consistent, cohesive manner and meet stated commitment deadlines and functionalities.
- Function as a subject matter expert across owned technologies and/or services
- Serve as a member of the on-call rotation that provides after-hours support for urgent incidents and service requests.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot incidents with endpoint hardware, enterprise applications, locally installed software, and other industry standard technologies.
- Contribute to the department’s continuous service improvement initiatives.
- Research support issues when resolutions are not readily attainable by checking available resources including, but not limited to, the IT Service Management tool, external knowledge bases, software manuals, and via collaboration with other team members.
- Other System Administrative projects as assigned by US Signal Management.
Required Experience:
- Knowledge of best practices in Windows System operation and configuration.
- Experience in Microsoft 365 administration, including Azure Active Directory.
- Experience administering and configuring Palo Alto firewalls is desirable.
- Experience administering Meraki firewalls and wireless is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Active Directory, DNS and DHCP.
- Excellent project management skills are a must.
- Experience with Backups using Veeam.
- Experience in VMWare vSphere is preferred.
- Experience with network hardware and network management software is desirable.
- Cisco Unified Call Manager Phone System Administration experience is desirable.
- Experience with storage array technologies, specifically with Pure and Infinidat arrays, is desirable.
- Ubuntu Linux and Apache Web Server administration experience is a plus.
- High level of productivity, analytical ability, attention to detail, accuracy and excellent organization skills.
- Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical users.
- Ability to effectively train peers on industry standard and company proprietary applications and processes.
- Ability to work well with all areas of the US Signal organization as well as with vendors.
- The ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously is critical.
Education:
Extensive experience in Computer Information Systems. A BS in Computer Science is a plus.
Experience:
- Eight to ten years’ experience maintaining and operating Windows Servers.
- Technical experience in a telecom environment is a plus.
- Networking and network monitoring experience a plus.
- Experience in both Windows and Unix/Linux operating system environments preferred.
- Experience in database environments, web-related and client/server environments as well as network management platform experience would be considered a plus.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
This position operates in a variety of environments. The majority of the time is spent in a professional office environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment.
