The Service Support Technician will report to the Service Engineering Manager. The SST is the primary provider of bus repair support for buses identified in need of repair once within the Distribution channel to delivery to the Blue Bird Dealer or Fleet customer.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide diagnostic & repair support for brand new buses in Blue Bird’s Distribution channel that have been discovered in need of repair(s)
- Troubleshoot and repair difficult technical issues
- Use multiple different diagnostic software (ex. Cummins Insite, Allison DOC, Ford IDS, etc.) as diagnostic tools
- Stay abreast of new Blue Bird products & features in order to provide trouble shooting & repair of these items
- Travel to locations across the US & Canada to complete repairs on delivery break downs
- Keep clear & concise record of each complaint, cause and correction for quality, production and engineering review
- Assist other technicians when needed
- Perform other assigned tasks
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES:
- Experience in major vehicle systems; IE basic chassis electrical systems, hydraulic systems, cooling systems, etc. is required
- Experience with powertrain management CAN multi-plexing
- Experience with Digital Volt Ohm Meter (DVOM) fluency
- Foundational understanding of powertrain management; fault codes, sensors, etc.
- Experience with Diesel and gasoline fuel systems
- Enhanced knowledge of Microsoft operating systems such as Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
- Good communication, judgement and decision-making skills
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of Medium/Heavy Truck and/or School Bus repair experience
- 5+ years of experience in diagnostic software use
- Master Medium/Heavy Truck and/or School Bus ASE Certification preferred
- Must complete & pass Blue Bird Academy Associate Level certification within 1st 6 months of employment
- Must have or be willing to obtain a Passport for travel to Canada
- Must have or be willing to obtain a CDL Class B permit
- Valid State issued Driver License and good driving record
- Able to work overtime as an on-call basis for after hours support
