Tetra Tech Inc.’s Disaster Recovery division is currently seeking fully remote Site Security Planners to support the State of Iowa’s School Safety Assessment Program. The program includes conducting vulnerability assessments for approximately 1500 schools and over 300 school districts throughout the state. The Planner position reviews plans, and procedures submitted by participating school districts/systems, determines if established standards are exceeded, met, or they fail to meet established standards, and identifies findings and vulnerabilities relative to the active shooter threat to participating public and private schools in Iowa.


Position Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Completes school facility assessments prior to onsite security visits.
  • Completes district/system assessments as directed.
  • Uses the Fulcrum program to access and complete school facility and district/system assessment forms (previous experience using Fulcrum not necessary).
  • Conducts research as necessary to find relevant demographic and other data for participating schools and districts/systems.
  • Quickly reviews plans and procedures submitted by school districts/systems, as well as the results from onsite security visits, for compliance with established standards.
  • Determines findings and vulnerabilities and communicates this effectively in the district/system assessment form.
  • Reports on assignment progress daily.
  • Tracks hours worked on each task to ensure accurate time keeping.
  • Conducts other tasks as assigned to meet project timelines, deliverables, and objectives.

The Required Qualifications for the Security Planner position are:

  • Must be available to work for up to 3-months.
  • Possess own smartphone, available for all-day use.
  • Possess the ability to plan for the vulnerability site assessments of large school campuses including multi-structure sites by phone.
  • Possess at least 5 years of relevant experience in law enforcement, homeland security, crime analytics, or another related field.
  • Possess (or obtain within 10 business days of start date) certification in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), Physical Site Professional, or another related site security certification.
  • Possess (or obtain within 10 business days of start date) certification in Incident Command System and National Incident Management System (ICS-100, ICS-200, IS-700, and IS-800).
  • Possess (or obtain within 10 business days of start date) certification in IS-360 : Preparing for Mass Casualty Incidents: A Guide for Schools, Higher Education, and Houses of Worship.
  • Maintain awareness of current tactical response operations for active threats through professional development and training.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, both internally and externally.
  • Possess excellent customer service skills.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills.
  • Possess the ability to receive constructive feedback and implement recommendations provided by team leaders.
  • Possess the ability to anticipate issues and make sound decisions to adjust accordingly.
  • Possess the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
