Position Summary Information

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The mission of the School of Social Work is to advance equity, transform systems, improve lives. The School’s curriculum supports the mission and recognizes the uniqueness of the region served, including concerns for disadvantaged, vulnerable, and oppressed individuals, families and communities. Classes provide rigorous and evidence-based content, and give students the opportunity to explore theory, learn intervention skills and engage in challenging dialogue with colleagues.

Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The Social Media Content Producer reports to the Assistant Dean for Strategic Communication and Marketing and works with colleagues at the School of Social Work, as well as with communication professionals within the schools and units across campus. This is a highly visible position charged with developing and managing a cohesive organic and paid social media presence; and managing the national reputation of the School. This position is often required to make real-time decisions about how best to represent the School in online conversations, helps implement the School’s social media strategy and researches, plans, creates, edits, organizes and posts digital content (such as videos, photos, graphics, gifs, memes, etc.) that effectively tell the School’s story. Key responsibilities include using web-based and mobile digital platforms to engage key constituencies of the School, managing the School’s online reputation, creating and executing integrated, online marketing and engagement campaigns for the School’s social media channels, and helping expand the School’s social media program into new platforms to effectively shape public perceptions and develop a broad community of support. In addition, the Social Media Content Producer occasionally assists other content developers/managers in the Communications department with non-digital communication efforts (web; video; photography), as necessary.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of all social media channels and their audiences, and the ability to develop targeted content to engage them
  • Strong interpersonal skills, which promote collaboration and productivity
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Video, photography and/or graphic design skills
  • Must be able to establish and maintain relationships with external and internal audiences
  • Headline-writing and caption-writing skills
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and respond appropriately to time-sensitive issues. Must be able to manage multiple projects and prioritize workload
  • Experience producing graphics and multimedia content, photography, videography
  • Experience managing and analyzing social media metrics
  • Experience managing social media advertising campaigns
  • Professional writing experience
  • Professional understanding of WordPress
  • Strong knowledge of Associated Press editorial style
  • Must be able to work in a team environment yet independently produce all content and deliverables

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Graduation from a four-year college or university, preferably with a major in Journalism, Communications, Visual Design, or a directly related field and at least 2 years of marketing/ communications experience in a professional setting managing social media accounts as the primary method of constituent engagement.
Strong project management and organizational skills. Strong photography and editing skills a plus.
Experience with higher education content is a plus and/or B2C experience.
2+ years of experience producing graphics and multimedia content
2+ years of experience managing and analyzing metrics
2+ years of experience managing social media advertising campaigns
2+ years of experience writing blog and feature stories for web and/or print

Required Licenses/Certifications
