Summary DescriptionThe Software Development Intern, as part of the Football Information Systems team, will have a role in all facets of a department that is responsible for the maintenance of database driven and stand-alone software applications for all football-related aspects of the organization. The Software Development Intern will gain practical experience working with a wide range of technologies inside of the sports industry. This position will have an emphasis towards full stack development.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with current technologies to create and modify a wide variety of web applications
- Assist the Coaching, Scouting, Football Administration, Strength, Medical and Strategy/Analytics Departments through continuing development and maintenance of existing centralized player evaluation/football management system
- Work with all football-related departments to provide ad-hoc statistical requests and custom reports, as well as tools and datasets for information pertaining to college and pro players, the NFL draft, and free agency
- Import and merge data from disparate outside sources into a centralized MS SQL database for use by all football-related departments and automate the import/merge processes for repeatability
- Perform Quality Assurance testing on new web pages, tools, and reports that were created within the FIS Department
- Additional duties when and where needed
- Currently pursuing, or completed bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent field
- Knowledge and interest in computer systems and the latest technologies
- Good communication skills – both written and verbal
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively and multi-task efficiently
- Desire and ability to learn new technologies quickly
- Familiarity with an object-oriented programming language such as: C#, Java, C++, etc.
- Knowledge of database concepts and SQL and their relation to the development life cycle
- Familiarity with version control tools/software such as: Azure Repos, Git Hub, or SVN
- Familiarity with Football, though formal experience and knowledge is not required
- Ability to write queries and create/modify functions, procedures, and views
- Knowledge of the ETL Process and its tools
- Familiarity with APIs and their terminology such as: REST, JSON, etc.
