Title: Software Engineer

Unit: IT and Information Systems

Reports to: Associate Director of Engineering

Status: Full Time; Regular; Exempt

Location: Long Island City, NY 11101

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for supporting the development and maintenance of the organization’s internal and external information management systems and applications. The individual will work within a development team, implementing new functionality and supporting maintenance and updates to the system. The systems in question support data capture/storage and reporting related to agency services and our client base.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work within the development team configuring and developing code directly contributing to the organization’s information management systems.
• Work within a collaborative environment to support new requirements and supporting maintenance and functional updates to systems.
• Coordinate with internal departments and the user community to identify needs and resolve system issues.
• Support the design and development of new software applications
• Support QA for ongoing development and releases.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent work experience
• Strong programming skills in at least one programming language – preferably JavaScript, Microsoft .NET framework, or Java
• Strong database/SQL skills with MS-SQL Server (including T-SQL, Stored Procedures, and SSRS) and/or NOSQL (MongoDB or similar)
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to anticipate problems and exercise solid judgement
• Experience or ability to work in a team-environment and to suggest alternate solutions where applicable
• Proven experience in working with results-driven, customer-service oriented support teams
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks to meet critical deadlines

Qualifications:

• Experience with Jira or similar ticket/task management system and/or with Git or similar version control system
• Experience developing web applications
• Familiarity with one or more popular JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue, etc)
• Experience developing data exchange interfaces (XML, SOAP, or JSON)
• Familiarity with Dev Ops (CI, Kubernetes, Docker)
• Experience or familiarity with environments that handle sensitive data (PII/PHI/HIPAA)
• Prior experience working within a non-profit organization

Travel Requirements: May require some travel to our Harlem and/or Bronx locations
