Job description

The District Manager reports to the Soil and Water Conservation District Board. The manager is responsible for the development and activities that meet the mission and annual plan of the Conservation District. Supervises the Administrative Assistant in the office and may supervise volunteers or other staff in developing natural resources related education programs for local schools. Assists the Board with assigned professional duties in the environmental area. In consultation with the Board Chairman, the manager develops board action items and the agenda for monthly meetings of the board. Coordinates the annual plan of work and the long range plan for the district. This requires identifying action items for the board in the areas of rural, urban, and soil and water education projects. The manager develops outreach programs and workshops for the general public, specialized technical audiences, and school children. All programs are directed toward the wise use of the County’s natural resources and may include rain garden installation, management of nuisance wildlife species, storm water problems, watershed pollution, and constructed wetlands. The manager serves as a technical expert in many facets of conservation programs and is expected to serve as a member of the State Technical Committee managed by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. The manager is the liaison for the board with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, USDA Farm Service Agency, SC Department of Natural Resources, Lexington County Public Works Department and other county, state and federal agencies.

Pay: $42,014.99 - $44,115.74 per year
