ssential Functions and Objectives:

A
dministers and manages activities within a specific area of a responsibility. Serves as the subject matter expert and applies gained knowledge to execute, maintain and improve systems, programs, or processes. R esponsible for building positive relationships between District Schools and parents/community and supporting District-wide training to strengthen family and community engagement. Engages parents in the education of their children; facilitates a productive, two-way dialogue around the issues and concerns that are important to District families; and supports training needs, facilitating training sessions and large-group parent meetings as needed.

  • Addresses concerns referred by the Board of Education and the Office of the Superintendent and assesses and troubleshoots escalated problems, applying expert understanding to resolve complex challenges; focuses on the root cause to achieve systemic and sustainable improvement.
  • Provides effective and equitable dispute resolution services, identifies and assesses systemic obstacles working between school staff and families, and builds solutions to support improved school community relations.
  • Acts as first escalation point for families and community members looking to address concerns above the building leader and serves as a central point of contact for external stakeholders during emergencies or crisis.
  • Collaborates with Instructional and Operational Superintendents and uses data trends to make recommendations.
  • Maintains specialized knowledge of district policies and procedures and ensures that DPS investigations related to assigned parent and community concerns are conducted fairly and in compliance with applicable district policies and procedures.
  • Conducts grievance inquiries and investigations and reviews decisions made by schools in relation to assigned concerns from parents and community members.
  • Provides consultation, coaching, training, presentations, and facilitation on a variety of topics related to conflict management, de-escalation and customer service.
  • Works according to guidance from the Office of General Counsel to mediate with families in place of legal action and/or after legal action to ensure that communication and relationships are restored.
  • Manage Tier 3 concerns and parent conduct letters.
  • Manages the receipt and tracking of grievances from families with students at charter schools and ensures that concerns regarding Special Education are addressed.
  • Works with other teams in the District to both influence and implement policies, procedures, programs and initiatives that pertain to Family and Community Engagement.

K
nowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years of experience in community work required.
  • Two (2) years of experience in conflict resolution/mediation and group facilitation required.
  • Knowledge with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Effectively handle multiple demands and competing deadlines.
  • The ability to take responsibility for one’s own performance.
  • Work collaboratively with others on a team.
  • Aptitude for variety and changing expectations and fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with Denver Public Schools, preferred.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish), preferred.

ducation Requirements:

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
