JOB TITLE: Speech and Language Pathologist - DHH

TERMS:
This position is a 185 total paid days position offering full family subscriber medical, dental, and vision benefits. Dental, vision, and life insurance are paid by the district at no cost to the employee. Personal business days and sick time paid.
Long term disability district paid up to $30 per month. Retirement through the Office of Retirement Services (Pension
Plus or Defined Contribution).
SALARY RANGE:
This position is on the Centerbased Professional Scale, $45346.94-85817.97 per year.
GENERAL JOB FUNCTION:
The Speech Language Pathologist performs evaluations of student communications skills and deficits and develops individualized communication interventions for implementation by the Speech and Language Pathologist and/or instructional staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. No physical or mental restrictions that would, with reasonable accommodation, prevent performance of essential job functions and responsibilities.
2. Possession of a Master’s Degree or better in Speech Pathology or a related field.
3. Possession of ASHA Certification (CCC). Clinical Fellowship considered with supervision available.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Develops individualized communication programs for students utilizing spoken language and augmentative and alternative communication systems and provides supports to students and staff through a tiered model of service delivery.
2. Implements directly, trains, and supervises other staff in the implementation and monitoring of communication programs utilizing spoken language and augmentative and alternative communication systems and assessment tools.
3. Provides resources, staff development/training activities, and consultation services to staff, other professionals, parents, guardians, and caregivers to support communication programs for students utilizing spoken language and augmentative and alternative communication systems.
4. Uses appropriate data gathering procedures and strategies to conduct a needs-based assessment utilizing a team approach.
5. Participates in student meetings, to include, but not limited to, IEP meetings.
6. Works with the Teacher Consultant for Augmentative Communication to determine augmentative and alternative communication needs as part of a comprehensive needs assessment.
7. Upholds the staff Code of Conduct.
8. Oversees application/approval of funding for speech generating devices as needed.
9. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by supervisor.
NOTABLE PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Occasional lifting of light to moderately heavy equipment is required. The ability to move freely about the school is also a common requirement.
TYPICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Most work is done in a therapy room or classroom environment.

CREDENTIALS, SPECIAL SKILLS OR KNOWLEDGE,
EXPERIENCE AND OTHER EXPECTATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:
1. Technical Knowledge/Skills –
Must have a high degree of expertise in speech and language development and evidence-based interventions and strategies to support communication development for individuals with severe speech impairments.
Must also possess at least a working knowledge of augmentative communications techniques and applications.
2. Decision Making Abilities –
Frequent decisions regarding therapeutic approaches to language/communications deficits are required.
Solid professional judgment is expected at all times.

WORK LOCATION(S):
Most work is performed in the classrooms and the speech-language pathologist’s office or school environment or community-based locations.
TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS:
Frequent travel in the area is required. Some travel is necessary within the state for conferences, meetings, etc.
