Business Unit Finance
The Business Unit Finance job manages multiple teams led by managers that focus on short and long-term financial planning and/or financial analysis of business unit operations for the purpose of measuring and forecasting future business unit performance. This job owns short to mid-term execution of financial planning/analysis strategy and the operational direction of the business unit. This job partners with the business to drive and inform strategy through significant engagement, financial transparency and accountability frameworks.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Advises senior leadership regarding strategic and operational business unit decisions based on financial planning and forecasting analysis results.

  • Directs analysis of internal financial information such as profit loss accounts, financial statements, working capital, costs, prices, expenses, revenues and rates of return for the purpose of measuring and forecasting future business unit performance.

  • Reviews the analysis of external economic conditions such as inflation, interest rates and exchange rates and their impact on business unit operations.

  • Reviews financial analysis reports to understand trends, predictive analytics and market driven perspective to drive strategic guidance.

  • Approves quantitative analysis of financial data in order to ensure that recommendations are sound and defensible.

  • Drives profit & loss accountability through education and deep engagement with the business unit.

  • Manages performance of team through regular, timely feedback as well as the formal performance review process to ensure delivery of exceptional products and engagement, motivation, and development of team.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 8+ years’ experience in financial planning & analysis, strategic planning, or business support required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 10+ years’ experience in financial planning & analysis, strategic planning, or business support preferred
  • Experience leading large transformational projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Bachelor degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Master’s degree preferred
  • Designation of Associate from the Society of Actuaries
  • Actuarial experience preferred
  • Experience with actuarial modeling
  • Experience analyzing and compiling information
  • Experience visualizing solutions and using critical thinking and systems design thinking to solve complex problems
  • Experience with executive presentation preparation, and exposure to senior leaders
  • History of managing and developing people and fostering an inclusive team, while also collaborating across the firm
  • Experience using Apptio, Smart View and Essbase; expert proficiency with Excel; experience with Oracle Planning System
  • Demonstrates a drive for curiosity and continuous improvement mindset by exploring, investigating, and applying learnings to enhance effectiveness and quality
  • Deep knowledge of TIAA’s products/services

Base Pay Range: $141,400/yr. - $235,600/yr.
Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
