The Global Trade Organization, within the Anti-Corruption, Trade, and Risk Management (ATRM) group of MBO is responsible for global trade compliance for Microsoft’s products, services, and technology.
The Global Trade Organization team owns and manages trade compliance processes, ensuring compliance with all applications laws and regulations and provides trade subject matter expertise internally and externally.
This role will proactively address immediate Trade-related compliance needs and build longer term plans to address emerging regulatory changes. You will take a strategic view in driving beyond the day-to-day and help to build a robust plan for today, and for tomorrow while implementing and driving for continuous improvements in processes and structure to pave the way for innovation and growth by setting standards and priorities, identifying, and solving for potential process gaps.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of a Business Engagement Manager:
- Manage all aspects of Microsoft trade business engagements, including relationships with various internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage the day-to-day execution of trade business engagement of projects and take ownership.
- Monitor and communicate business engagement status, including identifying the gaps between existing and future capabilities, monitoring project progression, supporting teams, overseeing project escalations as required, ensuring business partners engagement.
- Create and manage business engagement project roadmaps and tasks lists to co-ordinate with cross-functional internal teams from the business, compliance, and engineers.
- Contribute to the analysis, design, and implementation of business engagement performance approaches, and matrix’s, developing solutions and working closely with internal stakeholders to ensure positive impact and sustainable results.
- Structure ambiguous business engagement problems and issues, take action to solve them by focusing on the most important challenges.
- Ensure goal alignment across groups which may include internal teams, and partners.
- Create and deliver communication tailored to the audience, ranging from executive level project updates to detailed plans and reports.
- A strategic thinker who can demonstrate understanding of business engagement requirements, foresee risks, make decisions guided by policies, procedures, and a business plan.
Compliance
You will be working closely with business unit customers and partners to provide subject-matter expertise and support related to OFAC and other country sanctions programs, as well as U.S. export control laws and regulations.- Perform compliance reviews and investigations, identifying sanctions/OFAC-related risks or concerns.
- Manage engagements related to sanctions/OFAC/export control reviews, including transactional lookbacks, process improvements, system tuning, and segregation.
- Draft memos for clients and stakeholders detailing risk and mitigation measures.
- Provide guidance and ensure compliance with sanctions laws, including end-user and end-use regulatory requirements.
- Regulatory reporting, management reporting, operational metrics, visibility, communication, and sharing achievements.
Stakeholder Engagement
Provides consultation, communications, direction, roadmap objectives, and awareness to senior stakeholders in various business functions to ensure Trade compliance covering Sanctions & Embargoes, Export controls and Customs.- Partners with global business stakeholders to ensure compliance with export and import control laws and regulations in Microsoft's numerous jurisdictions. Facilitates an environment of inclusion that leverages diverse perspectives and talent, to better represent and understand global customers.
- Conduct Executive Briefings
Audit
Plans for review of trade controls, compliance reviews, and audits supporting Microsoft's government-controlled programs. Identifies areas for improvement, provides feedback to staff and auditors, and executes corrective action plans.
Reporting
Helps the team provide appropriate data-collection efforts for regulatory obligations. Manages trade related risk analysis, setting metrics, and defining the requirements for trade solutions. Ensures data availability for government reporting. Manages and contributes to the research development and implementation of reporting and insights across the enterprise.
Training
Identifies business training needs and aids in developing training pertaining to government-controlled programs. Coordinates and facilitates compliance training and change management training for internal business partners. Oversee the identification of the team's training needs and the content development process.
Process Improvement
Drive efficiencies for trade processes by monitoring feedback (e.g., from internal controllership), determine needed updates, institute policy changes by overseeing updates for Procedures, and provide executive communication updates. Challenge the norms; test and verify. Drive innovation across the organization to support process improvement.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Law, or related field AND 5+ years corporate, trade, or supply chain experience
- OR Master's Degree in Business Administration, Law, or related field AND 3+ years corporate, trade, or supply chain experience
- OR equivalent experience.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Experience with system and process design
- Working understanding of risk management and internal control frameworks and a solid understanding of the concepts of control design and operational efficiency
- OR in-country professional trade certifications or licenses.
- Knowledge of U.S. denied parties and sanctioned country laws and regulations, including OFAC and other country sanctions regulations preferred.
- Ability to work effectively across functional teams and stakeholders to drive for results and solve problems
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects, have excellent attention to detail, and work effectively under deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal, communications and presentation skills with ability summarize key issues/risks both verbally and in written context
- Ability to adapt and change with the needs of the organization and business
- Demonstrated use of business data to identify and quantify risks and prioritize remediation and mitigation
- Additional language skills are a plus
- For Colorado applicants the hiring range is $117,900 to $176,900
- At Microsoft certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role.
