What we’re looking for in you
Required:
- Bachelors degree and a graduate-level theological degree from a school accredited by the Association of Theological Schools.
- Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) by one of the following organizations: the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), or the National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC) or attain certification within two years of employment.
- Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (provided by an ACPE or NACC accredited center).
Preferred:
- Bachelors degree and a Master of Divinity degree.
- At least four units of CPE and preferably a hospital residency year of training at an accredited center.
- Documentation of ordination, licensure, or endorsement by a recognized religious faith group.
- Membership in the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) or related group such as the Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC) or the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC).
The skills/experience you bring as a Staff Chaplain
Required:
- Skilled in providing effective spiritual care to those experiencing illness, injury, crisis, end of life, death, ethical dilemma, spiritual distress.
- Adheres to the code of ethics of the Association of Professional Chaplains
- Ability to triage and manage crises appropriately and provide spiritual care to persons experiencing loss and grief.
- Respect for and appreciation of diversity and differences including age, culture, language, sexual orientation, and religious/spiritual beliefs/practices.
- Knowledge of and ability to respond appropriately to the spiritual, ethical, and theological issues commonly encountered in the hospital setting.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with other members of the department, hospital staff, religious leaders, and members of the community.
- Ability to provide religious/spiritual resources appropriate to the care of patients, families, and staff, including the development, coordination and facilitation of worship/spiritual practices, rituals, and rites.
- Knowledge and ability to educate other healthcare professionals about spirituality and religious practices.
- Self-motivated, able to function independently.
- Adheres to all departmental and hospital standards, policies, and procedures.
Preferred:
- Experience working with a palliative care or hospice team.
- Training in and experience leading support groups.
- Experience providing formal ethical consultations in a hospital setting.
- Training in and experience providing critical incident stress debriefing sessions for hospital staff.
The purpose of the Staff Chaplain role
As a Staff Chaplain you will provide spiritual care to patients, family members and staff of Lakeview hospital. Duties include providing chaplaincy coverage on nursing units, attending, and participating in unit rounds, responding in a timely fashion to pages and requests, serving on hospital committees if requested/assigned, leading worship and Remembrance Services as requested, attending Care Conferences as requested, documenting care provided in the electronic health record (EHR), maintain records and statistics of daily work per departmental practice, and other duties as assigned.
