Position Definition:
The Population Health and Policy Research Group (PHPRG) at the San Francisco VA Medical Center is dedicated conducting rigorous outcomes studies for improving Veteran’s health.
We are seeking a highly motivated and creative individual to be involved in the implementation of project plans and creative identification of novel methods for researching study hypotheses. The research associate will be heavily involved in conducting health interviews with veterans, reviewing private health information in charts, handling sensitive medical documents, and participating in meetings.
Essential Functions:
- Recruit participants for studies.
- Update patient information and enrollment databases.
- Recruit, screen, and manage the healthy control subjects.
- Maintain detailed record of work performed.
- Conduct interviews with various project participants.
- Collect study data and demographic information from subject’s medical records.
- Collect and enter data and maintain an accurate database.
- Under the general direction of the PI, investigate new project ideas, conduct literature reviews, produce research summaries and explore new clinical cohorts of interest.
- Assist PI, residents, and fellows in data analysis and writing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, abstracts for scientific meetings, and paper proposals.
- Design and produce figures and tables for data presentation in manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and power point presentations for PI, residents, and fellows.
- Additional administrative tasks as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- BA/BS in a related science or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 2-3 years’ experience in research
- Demonstrate solid inter-personal skills for interaction with research subjects, as well as research and medical center staff.
- Detail-oriented; ability to accurately follow written protocol and maintain detailed and organized records is of outmost importance.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously to achieve desired goals.
- Ability to successfully interact with a wide variety of individuals, especially veterans, senior citizens and individuals with memory impairment.
- Knowledge of data entry and database management.
- Strong oral/written communication and organizational skills.
- Computer literacy with full working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Endnote, Adobe, and Pubmed
- Prior experience in both clinical and research environments.
- Able to work a flexible work scheduled involving varied hours and on rare occasions on weekends.
- Current or previous experience working with the VA a plus
The current pay range for this position is $24.11-$28.87 an hour.
