Student Life and Campus Community has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Coordinator for the Student Organizations position.

Nature of Work
The Student Life and Campus Community office provides leadership, support, and oversight of Student Organizations, The Sentry Newspaper, Sorority & Fraternity Life, Leadership Programs, the Student Government Association, and Community Engagement. The coordinator also plays an active role on the Student Life & Campus Community team. This includes supporting large-scale collaborative initiatives, working with, and supporting peer events, and participating in departmental planning, staff training and development, budgeting, and assessment efforts. This position interacts directly with students, faculty, associate deans, directors, and staff within the university and externally with community partners, employers, alumni, and other professionals.
Position Emphasis:
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Student Organizations in Student Life and Campus Community, the Coordinator of Student Organizations is a vital team member that will develop and provide leadership for a comprehensive student organization program. The student organizations program will encourage student learning, enhance the overall university experience, result in community building, the creation of a sense of belongingness at CU Denver, and will prepare students for leadership roles and responsibilities. The student organizations program at CU Denver assists students in recruiting members, leadership development, programming and event planning, risk management, and the creation of school spirit and community impact. This position is assigned to specifically support The Sentry student newspaper editorial team in addition to supporting a variety of business functions for the student newspaper and the office of Student Life.
Examples of Work Performed
The Sentry Newspaper Support (40%)
- Supervision:
- Directly supervise the eight editorial staff members and support other staff members (up to 30 writers, photographers, and illustrators) as needed
- Provide training and support on supervision skills so that editorial staff members serve as effective peer supervisors to the writers, photographers, and illustrators
- Attend weekly editorial staff meetings (traditionally Thursday) to provide updates and participate in “Pitch Night” to serve in a staff advising capacity
- Attend production meetings (traditionally Tuesday) to ensure production happens efficiently and effectively
- Compile and analyze assessment data for office events and programs including readership rates and student usage; provide data to The Sentry faculty advisor and editorial staff members on a regular basis
- Office Management:
- Provide overall management of CU Denver Sentry office operations and logistics to enable the department staff to complete their tasks in a timely and efficient manner
- Manage all operations of CU Denver Sentry including greeting and assisting office visitors, referring to other areas of campus as necessary, scheduling appointments for members, and fielding a variety of questions/concerns
- Meets monthly with The Sentry Faculty Advisor to discuss support of student staff, issues, or concerns for follow up
- Manage reservations and office usage schedule.
- Communication and collaboration with the Metropolitan State University of Denver and Community College of Denver Office student media
- Advertising & Marketing:
- Co-manage CU Denver Sentry webpage and social media presence in partnership with student employees
- Work on print, video, podcast, and web coordination for The Sentry and Student Life
- Locate and contact potential clients to offer advertising services, including providing clients with estimates of the costs of advertising products or services, and invoicing
- Provide advertising or illustration proofs to clients for approval when necessary
- Recruit clients to participate in the UniverCity Key student discount program and related website
Student Organization Program Support and Administration (20%)
- Student Organizations Programs:
- Develop relationships with, and support, campus partners invested in and impacted by the work of student organizations and The Sentry.
- Support The Sentry and Student Life (planning, marketing, budget, facilitation, contracts, and evaluation) with event planning; examples include Tabling events, Milo Student Leadership Awards (annual student banquet), Extended Orientation events, Fall Fest and Spring Fling, partnership events with faculty and other university departments, New Student Orientation, etc.
- Support the planning and execution of Student Organization recruitment fairs and tabling events to support students’ awareness of The Sentry, Student Life, Campus Activities, and the Student Government Association.
- Assist the Director with the Student Life “Campus Happenings” weekly newsletter.
- Student Leader Training & Development:
- Create, present, and assess engaging training (online and in person) using a variety of implementation strategies (retreats, workshops, 1/1 coaching) to enhance the effectiveness of The Sentry and other student organizations as assigned.
- Use learning outcomes-based and assessment-oriented practices within training and workshop design
- Provide individual leadership coaching to student organization officers as assigned
- University Policy:
- In conjunction with the Assistant Director of Student organizations, support processes related to student organization accountability within the Student Code of Conduct
- Support, implement, or enforce various CU Denver and the University of Colorado system policies that affect the work of student organizations and provide information for the annual Clery Report as needed.
- Serve in other areas as directed by the Director of Student Life or Assistant Director for Student Organizations.
- This position has a combination of day and evening hours with some occasional weekend work
Business Functions (40%)
- Purchasing:
- Provide oversight and management of procurement including travel card, procurement card, purchase orders, and associated budget management (speed type audits/reports, allowable expenditures, etc.) for CU Denver Sentry and assist with Student Life as needed
- Maintain budgetary-related records in accordance with university standards
- Manage purchases for CU Denver Sentry including supplies, equipment, subscriptions, and processed documents to establish contracts for vendors for services. Places orders and oversees the supply-purchasing process, seeking input and authorization for advanced or critical decisions
- Coordination of workflow processes and audits of such to maintain maximum efficiency
- Support Student Life in other financial duties including cash handling, deposits, billing, accounts payable, and account management
- Human Resources & Hiring:
- Coordinate Student Life Student Staff Hiring Days and off-cycle hiring events as needed
- Responsible for the creating and processing of new positions and requisitions in HCM
- Effectively handles sensitive and confidential issues on behalf of Student Life with timeliness, discretion, professionalism, and consideration of the perspective of Student Life
- Handle/maintain/develop routine correspondence and materials, sensitive and confidential employee information, and employee personnel files. Appl knowledge of university and state regulations for records retention.
- Budgeting & Payroll:
- Manage The Sentry’s Student Fee budget of approximately $110,000 and prepare annual budget submissions to request for the Student Fee Review Committee managed by the Student Government Association.
- Track student hourly wage expenses within The Sentry budget.
- Approve bi-weekly payroll for The Sentry and serve as the backup payroll approver for the Student Government Association, Campus Activities, and Student Life.
- Upload professional staff and student staff timesheets per university timelines.
Additional Responsibilities may include:
- Assist with other departmental-sponsored events and activities throughout the year
- Communication and collaboration with CU Denver students, faculty, and staff.
- Communication and collaboration with the Metropolitan State University of Denver and Community College of Denver Office student media
- Serve in other areas as directed by the Director of Student Life.
- Combination of day and evening hours with some occasional weekend work.
Salary and Benefits:
The Hiring range for this position has been established at $49,572.
The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in education, communication, social science, women and gender studies, psychology, business, public administration, business administration, higher education, counseling, liberal arts, human services, student affairs, or a directly related field from an accredited institution and 1 year of professional level experience working in an institution of higher education in student activities, campus life or related area.
- Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field and experience.
- 1-2 years of experience as the graduate assistant or full-time work experience with student clubs and organizations or student media
- Working with college students, volunteers, and event planning.
- Experience working with student clubs and organizations.
- Experience working in business functions (purchasing, hiring, payroll).
- Experience with social media platforms, content management of websites, Discord, etc.
- Experience with training student leaders, and writing/delivering/assessing leadership curricula.
- Experience with customer service and collaborating with internal and external partners.
