Description
- Under the direct supervision of the school site principal, the Student Prevention Facilitator will act as a resource to all school staff and other service providers to increase awareness, utilize prevention strategies, and to facilitate interventions based on students’ global needs and support and/or facilitate specialized programs.
- Manage and/ or support Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Student Support Team (SST).
- Facilitate campus-wide prevention, coordination, and counseling initiatives including: Collaboration with school administration, advisors, counselors, staff, and community resources to foster a safe and positive school climate, conduct classroom lessons, staff development, and parent meetings on bullying, alcohol and drug prevention,violence prevention, threat assessments, behavior management, and other topics specific to campus needs.
- Collaborate with Student Academic Facilitator and Student Support Counselor on facilitating campus needs assessments regarding the effectiveness of the Comprehensive School Counseling Program.
- Develop and implement prevention and intervention plans based on campus needs assessments and at-risk students.
- Collect data required by the program and assist with reporting on a timely basis.
- Attend and participate in staff development and training sessions as well as serve as a trainer for campus staff on awareness, prevention, behavior management, and supportive strategies.
- Ensure the safety of all students through the promotion and implementation of the district safety plan, by notifying the administration of any unsafe conditions, following established procedures, resolving incidents, identifying and supporting students with recurring and/or severe disciplinary infractions and promoting a safe and positive environment that supports student growth and achievement.
- Work collaboratively and support the counseling team during periods of high-volume.
- Case management of special populations and special programming.
- Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Required Master's Degree from accredited university in Counseling, Education, or with coursework and/or experience in adolescent mental health and wellness
- Required Valid Texas Teacher certificate with required endorsements
- Required Valid Texas Counseling certificate
- Required 2+ years of experience as a classroom teacher or school counselor

- Effective interpersonal skills, including an ability to work and communicate in a positive manner with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrate excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Google, various learning management platforms, and effectively utilize a variety of educational software.
- Knowledge of identification, assessment, intervention and referral processes relative to: Teenage depression and suicide, mental illness, substance abuse, physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, personal and family crisis situations, death, dying and grieving issues, adolescent issues, bullying prevention, gender and sexuality identity, and other crisis intervention.
- Abreast of trends and practices of the counseling profession and potential barriers to educational progress and student wellness.
- Knowledge of restorative practices.
- Ability to promote a positive, caring climate and culture.
- Effective and efficient decision-making skills.
