The substitute Paraeducator position works with students under the direction of both the special education and regular education teachers. Position primarily supports students with special needs who may need both academic and physical support to meet their educational needs.


Substitute Paraeducator Duties include:

  • Provider assistance to students in regular & special education classrooms in completing tasks assigned by teachers
  • Assist the teacher in observing, recording and charting behavior
  • Supervise children in the hallway, lunchroom and playground
  • Assist the teacher in observing, recording and charting behavior
  • Observe behavior and carries out behavior management activities
  • Position schedule may vary depending upon school district and assignment.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of High School Diploma required.
  • Two years post secondary education - preferred.


Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working with children in a school setting
  • Bilingual speaking skills in Spanish / English
  • Must have the ability to relate effectively with students, staff and public

Credentialing Requirements:

  • Associates Degree or 60 College Credits
  • PA Child Abuse (Act 151) Clearance (Current within 1 year)
  • PA Criminal (Act 34) Clearance (Current within 1 year)
  • PA Department of Education Federal Criminal History Report (FBI) – (Current within 1 year)
  • TB screening (Current within 1 year)
