SUMMER CAMP | PROGRAM COACH

Highland Camps is seeking energetic and outgoing individuals with a passion for riding to teach fundamentals-based group lessons in downhill mountain biking skills to join our coaching team. Coaches are ambassadors for Highland, follow the lesson guide set forth by Highland Camps staff and provide customers a positive learning experience. Coaches will be trained by senior coaching staff upon hire.

Position: Highland Camps Coach. May also be referred to as Camps Coach, Summer Ride Coach, or Ayr Academy Coach.

Description: Mentor/coach riders 8-17 years old. To provide a safety-conscious, skills-based gravity mountain bike experience for an assigned group of student-riders while they develop fundamental skills, develop tactics, explore trails, develop teamwork, utilize goal setting, and develop leadership skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Coach student-riders in the fundamentals of the sport emphasizing risk management, skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and fun.
  • Mentor/coach student-riders on competitive and non-competitive goals.
  • Facilitate group activities including all scheduled on-hill training, meals, and activities as scheduled by supervisors.
  • Ensure inclusivity of all student-riders and equal mentorship for all student-riders regardless of skills, fitness, cycling experience or economic status.
  • Work to establish and improve group cooperation, unity and spirit.
  • Adhere to Highland Mountain Bike Park policies, objectives and rules.
  • Adhere to National SAFE Sport and HEADS-UP athlete protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age with reliable transportation.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years riding experience.
  • Must have a strong intermediate to advanced riding level.
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be comfortable with speaking in front of groups.
  • Must maintain a professional appearance and dress accordingly for the position.
  • Complete and pass a background check every 2 years.
  • Must be available weekends and holidays.
  • Must provide their own full-suspension bike.
  • Must have the desire to work with youth and exude enthusiasm and positive spirit with a commitment to equal participation.
  • Must exhibit patience, maturity and dependability. Recognized by others of sound character and strong moral values and personal ethics.

Evaluation: Frequent reviews of how things are going and how they can be improved is encouraged. As a community, Highland Mountain Bike Park wants feedback on how to make your coaching experience benefit you and all of the student-riders. We want to make sure that you and your rider group are meeting all of your goals. Coach reviews may be performed utilizing information from surveys with student-riders, parents, and other coaches.

As coaches, you will guide our student-riders to be ambassadors of this great sport and help them to discover a life-long passion of mountain biking. Highland Mountain Bike Park takes the safety of our student-riders very seriously. This is why we require all coaches to have a background check. Additionally, we have strict coach-to-student-rider ratios. We appreciate your understanding and support of protecting our youth and expect all coaches to fulfill their role and meet requirements and responsibilities to ensure the safety of our riders.

Pay: $400.00 - $625.00 per week

Experience:

  • Mountain Biking: 2 years (Preferred)

License/Certification:
