JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Campus Sustainability and Engagement, the Sustainability Program Associate supports a growing portfolio of campus sustainability programs to help ensure that Northeastern’s campus communities serve as models of healthy, sustainable, and equitable communities. Working closely with the rest of the Climate Justice and Sustainability Hub team, the Sustainability Program Associate helps leverage the talent from students, faculty, and staff, and global partnerships to expand Northeastern’s leadership role and implement just solutions to address the climate crisis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of common practices related to sustainability including climate justice, climate resilience, water efficiency, ecology, zero waste, energy systems and building efficiency, and other strategies that work towards the elimination of fossil fuels. Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Ability to build relationships, work across different levels within the institution, and work towards consensus to address the needs of various stakeholders. Ability to manage data and track progress towards program goals. Knowledge and skills required for this role are typically acquired through a at least one to three years professional experience and a bachelor’s degree in an area of study related to sustainability. Experience should include helping manage programs including program planning, execution, and evaluation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
1) Campus Programs and Engagement: Supports the Hub’s student and campus engagement programs. This includes coordinating monthly Student Sustainability Committee meetings, supporting the development and implementation of a sustainability student ambassador program, planning campus events, supporting communications including social media and e-newsletter, and helping launch an employee engagement program. Provide program support to the climate justice and sustainability grant program that will support collaborative projects between faculty, staff, students, and partners in the community that advance NU’s climate and sustainability goals.
2) Data Management and Reporting: Track key data to measure program performance and support third party reporting efforts including STARs and Princeton Review.
3) Research: Conduct research related to new programs and related best practices. Network, learn from, and share lessons learned with other colleges and universities.
4) May oversee student workers.
