KIPP SoCal Public Schools is a nonprofit organization that operates 24 tuition-free, open-enrollment charter public schools, within 20 Local Education Agencies (LEA), educating more than 9,800 students and supporting 5,800 alumni to and through college and beyond.

About the Residency
- A one-year program that integrates exceptional academic preparation and practical teaching experience
- Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from Alder Graduate School of Education at a deeply discounted tuition rate (~$20,000)
- California Preliminary Teaching Credential in: Multi-subject, Special Education (Mild/Mod) or Single Subject (Math, English, Social Studies, Science)
- The opportunity to work in a KIPP classroom and learn from a highly-effective, trained Mentor Teacher four days/week for an entire school year
- Priority hiring for a full-time teaching position at a KIPP school in Los Angeles or San Diego after your first year of the program.
Financial Overview
- Residents pay the deeply discounted Alder Graduate School of Education tuition for their first year (roughly $20,000)
- Residents receive a living stipend of roughly $20,000
- Financial aid is available through Alder Graduate School of Education’s Financial Aid Office in order to help cover other costs.
- Loans acquired during undergraduate education can be deferred because Residents are enrolled in a Master’s program.
Teacher Residency Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree completed by the end of June 2023
- A grade point average (GPA) of 2.65 or higher on the last 60 semester units or 90 quarter units preferred. If below a 2.65, you may submit an explanation.
- Eligible to work in the United States
Benefits
A guaranteed living stipend of at least $20,000 (Residents are not employees of the school) Up to $26,000 in state and federal grants for residents from all credential areas Up to $40K in federal financial aid/loans and the opportunity to apply for scholarships Master's Degree and Credential Priority hiring for a full-time position at the school of residency
