ACCOUNTABILITY

This ministry position is directly supervised by the Associate Pastor for Worship Ministries and is accountable to the Senior Pastor and Pastor/Parish Relations Committee.

DESCRIPTION

  • The Technical Director is an administrative position responsible for all audiovisual and information technology needs of the church. As such, they will be expected to display strong understanding, experience and skills in both the technical and creative/artistic aspects of the job. The primary responsibility of the Technical Director is the planning, oversight, and implementation of the audiovisual and information technology-related components of the ministry of First United Methodist Church in keeping with our understanding of Christian worship, discipleship and mission, and in accordance with the principles and doctrines of the Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church. The Technical Director will exhibit a living faith in Jesus Christ, including serving as an example of excellent moral character and personal faith in accordance with the highest standards of Christian discipleship.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Strong leadership and communication skills. Able to communicate technical matters in layman’s terms and to work effectively with all staff and volunteers.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. Able to establish and accomplish goals in a timely manner.
  • College degree or technical certificate in AV and/or IT systems.
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience.

FOCUS The Technical Director will:

  • Work with church leadership to develop and cast a vision for all elements of information technology and audiovisual ministry.
  • Manage the AV & IT budget.
  • Oversee and provide leadership for the Information Technology (IT) needs of the church and its related ministries.

o Attend meetings of the worship planning team as requested.

o Serve as part of the Administrative Team.

o In concert and coordination with the church's third-party technical consultants, serve as point person for administration of network infrastructure, server(s), Church Management System, telephone system, and internet connection (including with outside firms contracted to provide services to First Church).

o Provide technical support for each client computer and user within the church, consulting with church’s third-party technical experts as needed.

o Coordinate with the Director of Communications to make updates and improvements to the church website as needed or desired to advance the online ministry presence of First Church. Help with content creation as needed.

o Review and give advice on purchases of all computer hardware and software.

  • Oversee and provide leadership for the Audio Visual (AV) needs of the church and its related ministries.

o Advise church leadership on audio/visual components of all worship and teaching spaces (sanctuary, chapel, Family Life Center, etc.) and direct projects to improve all related systems and technology.

o Lead videography projects in all areas of the ministries of First Church.

o Oversee volunteer A/V staff for First Church worship services (including recruitment and training of new A/V team members in Presenter (projection software), livestream production, sound mixing, etc.).

o See that support is on hand for all scheduled events including worship services and special church events and/or others that may be scheduled by guest organizations or individuals.

● Manage Google Apps

● Maintain PC hardware and AV/IT equipment.

● Maintain AV/IT equipment at all other campus facilities.

● Other duties as assigned.

Job Type: Full-time
