Job description
The North Carolina Child Support Program operates in accordance with Public Law 93-647, North Carolina General Statutes 110-128-141, and Federal Regulations. The Technical Writer works within the Policy and Training Unit of the Child Support Program’s Central office in Raleigh, NC.
The primary responsibilities of this position are as follows:
Review, edit, format and load policy and procedural and system changes to the child support on-line manual and the Automated Collection and Tracking System (ACTS) Help Messages. ACTS Help Message change when there are changes to ACTS.
Develops and processes the child support policy and procedures to the DSS web team with updates to the Child Support Public User’s manual and other materials for the public website.
Develops and maintains the Child Support Internal web-based, other web-based resources, reports, documents, etc.
Updates the on-line training site and is the SharePoint administrator for the CSS program.
Determine the clearest and most logical way to present information
Analyze information required for the development or update of policy, procedures and form documentation
Review and/or edit content developed by members of the team and/or management
Write documents when needed for instructional purposes of the manual and/or SharePoint
Manage multiple priorities and time sensitive projects.

About the Division of Social Services (DSS):
The Division of Social Services provides training, technical assistance, consultation, and program compliance monitoring to staff of local county departments of social services (100 counties) which provides an array of programs and services in for families and children. These include Child Welfare Services (Child Protection, Adoption and Foster care); Economic & Family Support Services (Work First, Food and Nutrition Services (FNS), Refugee Assistance, Energy & Emergency Assistance Programs) and Child Support Services. In addition, the Office of Economic Opportunity provides training, technical support and monitoring services to a network of community action and limited purpose agencies (47 statewide) who work with families of low income. The DSS Budget Office is responsible for administering a $1.9 Billion budget for Public Assistance and Social Service Programs throughout the State of North Carolina.

Experience working in the Child Support Program- Experience developing procedural guides and/or manuals
- Demonstrated skills in editing materials/documents
- Experience updating data bases
Master's degree in a discipline relative to the program from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of related experience;
OR
Bachelor's degree in a discipline relative to the program area from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of related experience;
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
