Preferred Qualifications
Responsible for performing planning studies for long range outage and risk mitigation for the 69kV to 500 kV transmission systems for PPL Electric Utilities. Collaborates with Asset Management, Distribution Operations, and PCM to review outage work sequences that are in line with PPL EU's portfolio.
This position will also assist our Rhode Island Energy team and require travel to RI at least once every 2 months.
- Performs planning studies that result in a 5-year rotating outage window with input from Asset Management, Distribution Operations and PCM. The planning studies analyze prearranged outage requests on the Transmission System to insure reliable, "single contingency criterion" operation. Reschedule the facility outage or reconfigure the system, as necessary, to assure reliable operation.
- Works directly with PJM to resolve any potential outage conflicts and emergency situation by coordinating outages to minimize electrical system stresses including voltage, loading and stability concerns.
- Coordinates communication within and external to the Transmission Operations department relative to requested outages and assures outage contingencies are completed and accurate for the portfolio according to department expectations.
- Assists in the development of specific NERC compliance documentation for all NERC Standards. Assists in developing standards documentation for RF, NERC and PJM audits. Provides testimony for standards during audits.
- Stays current with all technical aspects of the transmission system and its technological advancements, including those supporting computerized data associated with the Transmission Management System through constant study and personal development.
- Supports event free operation in the Transmission Control Center Operations Outage Planning Group by conducting human performance observations and leading investigations of Human Performance events.
- Assists in the work on smaller engineering projects or well-defined areas of larger projects. Uses existing procedures to investigate, evaluate and assist in producing technically correct cost-effective recommendations to solve ongoing problems.
- Builds relationships that will facilitate knowledge transfer, cross functional knowledge of related work group, and the ability to present work products effectively.
- Assists in supporting PPL EU portfolio strategy by developing and maintaining PPL EU's mid-term and long-term outage plan. Actively participates in and engages other departments in developing the outage plan and an evaluation of the risk to the system.
- Will contribute to storm emergency response as required by Transmission Operations Management.
- Holds periodic meetings with stakeholders to effectively manage the comprehensive outage plan.
- Leads initiatives related to outage planning in support of building a 5- and 10-year business plan.
- Attends Super Region Schedule and Project Review Meetings held to coordinate and review current and future substation transmission work.
- Assists in the review and development of project construction work outage sequences and ensures coordination with the comprehensive outage plan.
- Produces report of outages requiring SCADA enhancements from T- 4 to T-24 from ORCA and attends monthly Construction Work / SCADA Coordination Meetings.
- Physical presence in the office/on-site to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.
- All positions in which driving is an essential function of the job, regardless if the job code is marked safety sensitive or not, will also be included as safety sensitive.
- May be assigned an Electric Utilities emergency and storm role. This is a special assignment that comes into play during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service. This role may necessitate the need to work after-hours, outside of your normal schedule.
- The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change. In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, a related field, or a Transmission System Operator certified by PPL EU.
- Minimum of5 years of industry experience in Operations, Project/Construction Management, Outage Planning, or Work Management.
- Obtain NERC Transmission Operator certification with 1 year of being in role.
- Prior work experience using corporate computer software systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Specific knowledge of PPL and PJM operating practices.
- PJM Transmission Operator Certification, NERC Transmission Operator Certification, completion of PPL EU Transmission System Operator Training, and a PJM Gen Certification.
- 5 years of electric utility experience.
