Job Description

We are currently seeking a results-driven individual to fill a critical role as an Underwriter Associate on our Commercial Lines Service & Operations Team. The Underwriting Associate provides support in a variety of underwriting tasks utilizing multiple internal and external systems and reports.

This position follows a hybrid schedule of Mon & Fri at home, with Tues through Thurs in-office. This position can be filled in Montgomery, AL.

What You'll Do

As an Underwriter Associate, you’ll work closely with Regional underwriters and independent agents, as well as others within the operations support units, to ensure service and quality objectives are met. In addition, you’ll:

  • Work on underwriting assignments such as loss and risk exposure documentation using manuals, established procedures, and collected information.
  • Receive and respond to phone calls and emails from agents, brokers, and underwriters regarding questions on new business and renewal policies/accounts, as well as policy changes.
  • Apply underwriting policies, philosophies, and procedures assist the underwriter in evaluating the overall acceptability of risk to determine if it fits Sentry’s underwriting guidelines.
  • Process policy change requests, renewals, and some new business within knowledge and authority levels.
  • Utilize Sentry’s case management system to track and document your work, as well as to provide metrics on case completions.
  • Strive to achieve or exceed all service level agreements to provide outstanding service delivery to Sentry’s agents and shared customers.

What it Takes

  • Associate Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 1-3 years of related work experience.
  • Knowledge of underwriting systems and/or various software applications preferred.
  • Insurance courses related to property and casualty insurance, such as IIA and CPCU beneficial.
  • Effective communication, analytical, and mathematical skills.
