Position Summary
This position reports to the Director of Medical Air Operations who is the lead pilot and oversees the entire operations program. Therefore, this position is given responsibility to work independently with a diverse air population at all levels, and handle multiple priorities in a deadline driven environment. This position will be responsible to efficiently handle day-to-day operations of Medical Air Operations. Incumbent will actively seek out potential problems or issues that may arise with day-to-day operations of Medical Air, while developing and presenting possible solutions to the Director.
This position has primary Director. responsibility to plan, organize, and implement passenger and aircraft scheduling and dispatching statewide for all Medical Air pilots. With aging aircraft and the consequent intense maintenance of those aircraft, this position is required to be extremely vigilant in maintaining the flight schedule, because this position will be making decisions that will dramatically impact the flights of Medical Air. In absence of the Director, this position is authorized to accept or reject flights based upon the status of availability and the impact that these flights would make on the entire schedule. Position will be expected to make sound decisions that are influenced these by unexpected events such as potential weather concerns, priority flights, mechanical breakdowns, airport restrictions (e.g., noise, curfew, fuel availability, weather, instrument approaches, etc.). The biggest example, the unexpected events of September 11, 2001, required precise coordination with incoming and outgoing flights and flights that were already in progress.
This position will be required to schedule and maintain the renewal data for pilots’ certification and annual medical physicals, while maintaining records of training and currency requirements as inputs to the weekly flight schedule. The position will also be responsible for the preparation of statistical data such as aircraft checklists, accident procedures; aircraft inventory data, vendor information, gas computation logs, aviation publications, and billing. This position will be responsible for the preparation of monthly reports and statements for air transportation. This includes monitoring pilots’ weekly flight hours as well as aircraft maintenance time records. Position will analyze administrative data for aircraft non-reimbursed time, and/or relative use of an aircraft based on data from accounting, master flight schedule, and individual flight manifests. This position will act as a liaison with individuals, educational manifests, institutions, and various Federal and State agencies. This requires an unusually high degree of discretion and sensitivity to privileged information.
