US Scientific Operations Associate Director and Team Leader

As a R&D Scientific Operations Team Leader you will be responsible for:
- Leading a team of Scientific and Laboratory Operation Professionals
- Act as the primary liaison between the business line and WREF for coordination of site minor works, facility projects and scientific services and operations delivered through service partners.
- Providing operational support for GSK’s Research Discovery scientists by
- Driving Good Scientific Practices (GSP) and quality within the labs, ensuring ways of working are fit for purpose and labs are designed and setup for optimized use. Ensure that standards and processes are implemented with a high level of compliance throughout the R&D labs.
- Assisting Lab Heads to execute on their accountabilities to ensure EHS lab compliance (risk assessments, annual MSDS update, introduction of new chemicals, training, waste management, external suppliers/service providers etc.)
- Enabling Risk Management processes through proactive lab-based risk identification & communication as well as coordination of risk mitigation implementation activities.
- Partnering with scientists to identify Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) needs, prepare individual Project Investment Proposals (PIPs) including business case analysis, and lead SMR based project execution.
- Executing Management Monitoring (MM) activities per MM Plan for Lab Operations and Scientific Area key business activities, ensuring timely issue escalation, KPI management, and annual reporting.
- Serving as Global Business Owner / Subject Matter Expert (SME) for key lab operations processes/systems (lab notebooks, document management systems, lab equipment management, inventory systems, etc.).
- Participating as Lab Operations and/or Scientific Area representative at Quality Management System (QMS) forums, and other bodies as necessary.
- Leading process improvement initiatives supporting the Research R&D laboratories.
- Coordinating Lab Equipment Lifecyle Management (LCM) activities including purchase and commissioning of new equipment, periodic maintenance & calibration, moves, and decommissioning through effective partnership with internal service partners (e.g. EHS, Facilities & Engineering, Procurement, Lab Systems/Tech, Quality) as well as external service providers.
- Managing audit/inspection preparation, Deviation management including Root Cause Analysis, and Corrective Action Preventative Action (CAPA) follow-up.

Basic Qualifications:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Scientific Field
- 5+ years’ experience as a scientist in laboratory environment
- 1+ years’ experience leading people or matrix teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
- 5+ years’ experience as a scientist in Pharma drug discovery.
- Masters or PhD science degree.
- Evidence of delivery in an R&D environment, including leading a team and/or leading a matrix team.
- Self-directed, highly motivated and understand where to apply your efforts to achieve the most significant business outcome.
- Results-orientation and drive to set and reach challenging goals, high standards for performance.
- Highly effective communicator (spoken, written, listener).
- Experience in managing the navigation of decision and /or their execution through multiple parties in major, matrix organization.
- Ability to utilize MS Office Suite, including Office 365, TEAMS, OneNote.
