DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Perform maintenance and repair on light and medium vehicles, and equipment. Servicing of vehicles and equipment task include, but not limited to, changing oil and filters, lubricating, checking systems for proper adjustment, fueling, and washing vehicles.

Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and fuel system malfunctions of vehicles and other mechanical equipment using diagnostic equipment and shop tools.

Perform all repairs, replacement, or adjustment of vehicle and equipment systems, such as brake overhaul, clutch and transmission repair, general overhaul, and major tune-ups.

Perform preventive maintenance safety inspections.

Perform service, maintenance, and repair of hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, fuel and water systems.

Perform welding and fabrication for vehicle and equipment repairs and systems modifications.

Perform maintenance and repair on commercial vehicles, construction equipment, and specialty equipment, under minimal supervision.

Service, maintain and repair hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, fuel water systems, and assist with major repairs. Install cellular telephone hardware in District vehicles.

Read and interpret schematics and technical drawings, shop manuals and repair guides for mechanical specifications, and instructions on how to adjust and/or repair vehicles and equipment.

Per applicable job level, required to supply appropriate tools, not including specialty tools or testing equipment.

Provide new equipment orientation.

Maintain fuel dispensing and vehicle cleaning systems.

Provide emergency road call service.

Ensure the professional appearance of all District vehicles and equipment.

Comply with District safety work-related practices and attend relevant safety training.

Participate on process teams and internal/external committees and organizations.
- High school graduation or equivalent required. For degrees obtained outside of the U.S., an official equivalency evaluation is required.
Experience:
- Minimum five (5) years related hands-on experience at journeyman level on light and medium vehicles and equipment required.
- Knowledge of current vehicle technology, on-board computerized systems, brake systems, maintenance programs, specialty, and safety equipment, etc.
- Valid Class "C" California Driver's License
- Class "A" California Driver's License required within (1) year of hire date.
