Position Summary Veterinary Assistant | Do you want to do this?

This position has as a primary goal to facilitate the responsibilities of all departments in order to provide exemplary patient care and seamless communication. As a core member of the veterinary medical team, the Assistant will work closely with the technicians, doctors and other staff members to carry out the care of patients in the hospital wards and outpatient service areas. The Assistant will be responsible for various aspects of patient care including restraint, laboratory packaging and shipping, and cleanliness. Excellent judgment and communication skills are essential. The Assistant is expected to maintain and promote the CUVS core values and standards of care and adhere to protocols established within the hospital. Additionally, the Assistant will be expected to uphold the culture of learning through training and professional enhancement of skills and knowledge.

Key Responsibilities | Why is this important to you?

- Proficiency Ability to handle patients according to the CUVS standards of care and the treatment orders prescribed by the clinician. Assist the clinician and technicians in all aspects of nursing care and patient husbandry and grooming/bathing.

Proper technique for disconnecting/connecting patients from fluid therapy under the direction of a licensed technician. Assisting, walking or transporting patients in a safe manner between areas of the hospital. Knowledge and adherence to Isolation and Infectious Disease protocols and procedures. Ability to multi-task efficiently as a member of a team, learn, take direction, and follow through with tasks as instructed

- Communication Excellent communication and people skills, with a strong command of written English. Ability to communicate effectively with clinicians and technicians regarding patient status, as well as effectively and compassionately with pet owners as appropriate.

Communicate effectively with other departments regarding procedures and transfers

- Organization & Cleaning Ensure the Wards, Food Prep/Laundry clinical areas are kept stocked, organized, and cleaned, by following appropriate hygiene and cleaning protocols. Complete inventory requests and ordering in accurate and timely manner. Proactively offer equipment care and maintenance. Ensure maintenance and cleanliness of clinical areas of the hospital

- Client Services Bring patients to and from exam rooms for visits and discharge and bring clients to hospitalized patient areas as directed by a technician or a doctor.

- Computer Skills Proficiency with relevant aspects of electronic medical records

Note: This is a Full-time, permanent position, handling canine and feline animals. Candidates with all levels of years of experience are welcome to apply. This position will be on a rotating schedule for weekends and major holidays.
