Job Summary
The College of Veterinary Medicine seeks candidates for a Veterinary Assistant position to work directly with the Emergency/Critical Care (ECC) clinicians and rotating intern doctors to help facilitate quality client care and patient flow through the IMC, ICU, and ER.

This is a rotating monthly swing shift:
Mon – Thurs 2:00 pm – 12:00 am, Fri – Sun 12:00pm – 1:00am

Essential Functions
  • Assists with administering treatments and monitoring patients admitted in IMC or ICU, Observes and records vital data, abnormal signs, body weight, food/water intake of animals, and collects and labels specimens and perform treatments and administer medications as prescribed by primary veterinarian.
  • Performs and demonstrates veterinary care techniques and procedures related to emergency and critical care medicine.
  • Assists veterinarians in the care of patients requiring advanced procedures and life-saving
    techniques including CPR, mechanical ventilation and dialysis.
  • Inspects facilities, equipment, and supplies daily, as well as observes health status of animals ,
    environmental conditions, temperature, and sanitation.
  • Perform job duties with speed and accuracy and work as essential personnel, providing care for patients after hours, on weekends and holidays.
  • Assists with emergency triage and stabilization of patients presenting through the Emergency
    service.
  • May be responsible for, or assist in, billing clients, inputting charges, and/or similar tasks.

Requirements for Additional Job Levels
Depending on the combination of education and experience, selected candidates will be hired as a Veterinary Assistant, and assigned Levels I, II, or III. Salary range is determined by eligibility for Level I, II, or III.

Consideration for Level I requires a high school diploma or equivalent.

Level II requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of experience working in a veterinary hospital environment.

Level III requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of experience working in a veterinary hospital environment.

Indicated education is required; no substitutions allowed.
