Job description
Position Title:* VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR*
Exemption Status: Full-Time, Non-exempt position
Shift: 8 hours per day, 5 days per week; includes weekends and holidays, with some special events, evening work and occasional travel.
Reports to: Lynne Tingle, Founder/Executive Director
Compensation: $45,000/year, as commensurate with skills and experience
Summary: The Milo Foundation Volunteer Coordinator plays a vital role in the long-term success and growth of the organization, by creating and maintaining a robust and effective volunteer program that will optimize donated human resources. This Coordinator recruits, trains, organizes and manages volunteers; identifies their motivations, talents, and strengths; and nurtures their desire to contribute their time and effort to the lifesaving work of animal rescue. While creating a rewarding experience for volunteers is important for retention, it’s just as important to develop a collaborative and respectful relationship between the volunteers and the organization’s employees, to help Milo leadership create a cohesive and productive team. Staff and volunteers alike must make a professional presentation to visitors at all times and do their best to make sure the experience at Milo is a positive one. The Coordinator ensures that all volunteers serve as stellar representatives of the organization to all clients, donors and the community.
All workers at Milo are responsible for improving and maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and safety in the facility and for the health and well-being of the animals in their care. The Volunteer Coordinator leads the volunteer team in these responsibilities in all areas, including the visitor areas, the animals’ indoor living spaces and the outdoor runs and Milo Dog Park.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
· Develop and implement a comprehensive recruitment, orientation, training, policies and procedures, standards of conduct, retention, and recognition plan for individual and group volunteers.
· Keep volunteers well informed of goals of the day and any information they need to accomplish them, by being available, organized, clear, communicative and consistent.
· Achieve expertise with Milo policies and procedures for animal care, including proper and safe handling of dogs and cats (consult with staff and signage about special medical and behavioral conditions); daily cleaning of kennels, crates, dog yards, entryways, etc.; and organizing supplies, and thoroughly train volunteers in the same.
· Organize and train volunteers to assist Milo staff in maintaining a clean and safe facility for the health and welfare of the animals and for the professional presentation of the facility and the organization.
· Become familiar with the Milo adoption and foster processes, to assist the staff as needed with the animals.
· Obtain knowledge of and comply with laws and Milo protocols and policies, and ensure all volunteers are knowledgeable and in compliance as well.
· Develop and maintain strong, positive relationships with both volunteers and Milo staff, and work collaboratively with individuals and teams, to ensure organizational expectations and needs are being met.
· Become proficient with Volgistics, Milo’s volunteer database, to organize and maintain complete and accurate records of volunteer information, schedules, performance and progress, and incidents.
· Provide to management monthly and quarterly reports of all individual and group volunteer statistics, including the number of volunteers and days and hours worked.
· Serve as the primary point of contact for all volunteer/collaboration requests by telephone and voicemail, mail, email, text and written requests, and ensure a timely response.
· Provide excellent, professional and friendly customer service to all Milo associates, clients and visitors, setting an example and high standard for volunteers to provide this same level of excellence.
· Provide assistance and primary leadership to participating volunteers at off-site events.
· Work collaboratively with all Milo associates with a positive attitude, and make sure volunteers feel valued and motivated.
· Practice and promote the mission of Milo Foundation to all donors and advocates to help ensure they become long-term supporters of the organization.
· As needed and on an occasional basis, recruit, schedule and organize volunteers at the Sanctuary, and travel to the location to assist.
· Other duties as assigned.

Physical & Other Requirements:
· Routinely lift 50 pounds and perform daily strenuous activity including but not limited to lifting, carrying, cleaning, reaching, stooping, squatting and bending, and being active for long periods of time.
· Must be comfortable with daily exposure to dogs, cats, and potentially other animals at the Sanctuary as well, of all sizes, temperaments, and medical status.
· Must have the disposition and the ability to solve problematic customer service and other situations, including with fellow team members, with professionalism, consideration, and respect for all parties involved. Must be able to evaluate situations quickly and act in accordance with Milo’s mission and policies, as well as the interests of the parties involved.
· Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, rain, and cold.
· While a regular work schedule will be established, must be able to work cooperatively and adjust to changes to the schedule made in accordance with the needs of the organization.
