Water Fitness Instructor FLSA Status: Part Time
Reports to: Aquatic Director Revision Date: 3/17/22
Hourly Rate: $11.00-$12.00 depending on certification and experience
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for teaching participants skills to enhance their fitness level following the YUSA Water Fitness/Arthritis program while ensuring the safety of students at all times.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain surveillance of participants in your class, know their whereabouts and safety levels at all times.
- Teach activities and skills according to level of class being taught and provide alternatives for students needing modifications.
- Start and end class on time, and have equipment to be used during class prepared before the start of class.
- Recognize potential hazards, communicate and eliminate hazards relative to program and program areas.
- Assist lifeguards during emergency situations.
- Adhere to policies and responsibilities in the Aquatic Staff Manual
- Plan and implement program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
- Adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings.
- Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
- Maintain positive relations with patrons and other staff. Model relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 16 Years of age.
- Must be energetic, creative, and enthusiastic. Be skilled at and understand the importance of building relationships with people; members, staff, volunteers, donors, community leaders.
- Ability to communicate and effectively teach participants skills to enhance their fitness level.
- Current Water Fitness Instructor, CPR for Professional Rescuer, and First Aid certifications (or ability to achieve these certifications within 30 days of hire).
- New Staff Orientation, Child Abuse Prevention, Blood Borne Pathogens, YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant and Oxygen Administration training within 30 days of hire date.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Able to carry out all requirements of a certified Water Fitness Instructor.
