JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Water Works Technician
Classification: Hourly
Reports to: Water Manager
Summary/Objective
Assist in maintaining all aspects of various water systems throughout our organization. This position is responsible for reliable service of all domestic and irrigation water supplies across 8 ranches and 40 irrigation systems. The Water Works Technician reports to the Water Systems Manager.
Essential Functions
- Maintain, inspect, and repair various water system service components for residences and company buildings.
- Operation and maintenance of drinking water, irrigation, and wastewater systems.
- Performs scheduled maintenance.
- Monitor and maintain wells and pumping stations.
- Ability to repair and fabricate necessary piping, including welding of fixtures at pump stations, water supply lines, and service connections.
- Basic understanding of pump controls.
- Assist with any necessary water testing and reporting, as required by regulating agencies, communicating and cooperating appropriately.
- Obtain necessary state water certifications.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other departments within the organization, and with contractors hired by the organization.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job entails approximately 60% work in an outdoor or agricultural setting where the employee may be exposed to high noise levels, extreme weather conditions, fumes, or particulates in the air.
This job entails approximately 30% work in shop environment where the employee may be exposed to high noise levels, fumes, or particulates in the air.
This job entails approximately 10% administrative work completed in an office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and other office machines.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position requires the ability to lift products and supplies, up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Additionally, this position will be very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing. The employee may lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. This position requires driving a motor vehicle to different locations and operating various machinery.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, hourly position. Some flexibility in hours may be allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
This position may require up to 50% travel. Most travel is within the local area and does not require overnight stays. Occasionally, travel outside the local area and overnight stays will be required.
Required Education and Experience
- Three years related experience.
- Demonstrated ability to manage time, work cooperatively, and work independently.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Relevant work experience in water systems or similar field
- Experience in agricultural environment
