Job Description:
This position is a 9-month teaching faculty position that also includes administrative duties to serve as the Program Head for Physical Therapist Assistant Program. This position is responsible for the program’s compliance with all PTA education standards set forth by the Commission on Accreditation for Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). This includes the following:
This position is a 9-month teaching faculty position that also includes administrative duties to serve as the Program Head for Physical Therapist Assistant Program. This position is responsible for the program’s compliance with all PTA education standards set forth by the Commission on Accreditation for Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). This includes the following:
- Submitting annual reports
- Completing the self-study
- Participating in the onsite accreditation visit
- Other related accreditation tasks
Full-time teaching faculty are responsible for teaching various courses in the designated discipline/field of study. Courses are offered in traditional, hybrid, and distance learning environments. Faculty members also serve as faculty advisors, serve on division/campus/college committees and participate in curriculum development.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough understanding of the NOVA PTA program’s curriculum design.
- Knowledge of and commitment to upholding CAPTE standards.
- Available to teach day, evening and weekend classes.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence.
- Ability to work in a collegial manner with a highly diverse faculty, staff and student population.
- Knowledge of instructional technology.
- Knowledge of Canvas learning management system.
- Ability to supervise staff and perform administrative tasks successfully.
Required Qualifications:
- Must have an earned professional degree as a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant.
- Must hold a minimum of a Master’s degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a United States Department of Education-recognized regional or national accrediting
- Eligible to be licensed to practice physical therapy in the state of Virginia.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years (or equivalent) of documented full-time post licensure experience in the field of physical therapy that includes a minimum of 3 years (or equivalent) of full-time clinical experience.
- Must have administrative experience, including but not limited to, program planning and implementation, personnel management, evaluation, and budgeting.
- Must have an understanding of and experience working with Physical Therapist Assistants.
- Must have didactic teaching experience at the postsecondary level.
- Must be compliant with the code of ethics of the profession of Physical Therapy.
- Current American Physical Therapy Association member.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in curriculum and program development and related accreditation tasks.
- Experience teaching in a community college setting.
- A minimum of one year of full-time teaching experience.
- Clinical expertise in the field of Physical Therapy.
- Experience in instructional design, student evaluation and outcome assessment
- Experience in PTA clinical education, including experience as a PTA student clinical instructor
- Experience in leadership role including promoting collaboration, open communication and team building
- Experience in strategic planning and implementation to achieve set goals
