Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the managing actuary, provide technical support to actuaries including preparing annual actuarial valuation reports and performing unit-testing to ensure the correctness of isolated codes in the actuarial valuation system.- Perform valuation duties by developing/maintaining actuarial models using MS Excel; including actuarial valuations of Defined Benefit plans, calculations of annual contribution requirements, cost estimates of amending program provisions, and preparing annual reports.
- Assist in developing actuarial assumptions, techniques of plan funding, forms of benefit payment, and program provisions.
- Perform actuarial gain-loss analysis to identify cost drivers and year-over-year trends of Defined Benefit plans.
- Produce annual service fee agreements and data requests forms aligned with client provisions by developing complex queries, tables, relationships, database objects, module and macro code using MS Access.
- Design, develop and modify client master data infrastructure to accelerate the processes of data analysis and reporting using MS Access VBA and SQL.
- Perform exploratory data analysis on clients’ census data and provide relevant descriptive statistics.
- Involves the opportunity to telecommute within the Latham, NY area, up to three (3) days per week, as feasible.
Education & Experience:
Must have a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, finance or a related quantitative field.
Key Competencies & Skills:
Must have one (1) year of experience in the job or in a related pension actuarial position.- Must have experience in long-term actuarial modeling and exploratory data analysis.
- Must have knowledge of Defined Benefit pension plans; Microsoft Office Suite; and Visual Basic Application to update macros and Structured Query Language to develop/maintain Access modules.
- Must have completed one (1) actuarial exam in the ASA track.
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Involves the opportunity to telecommute within the Latham, NY area, up to three (3) days per week, as feasible.
- Salary: $60,986 - $65,000/year, M-F, 40 hours/week.
