STATUS: Part Time

Position Summary:

We are looking for a dynamic instructor who knows how to introduce our military and non-military students to Homeland Security. These courses are in high demand and serve a high tempo and skilled group of our students who are seeking to move forward in their careers. Our adult students need to apply their knowledge quickly, and the Adult and Online Education division strives to meet that need.

The adjunct instructor of Homeland Security is expected to teach one or more courses in Homeland Security. Courses within the HSEC program are varied within areas of expertise from EDM to Terrorism; we encourage you to click here to read more about the program before applying. Classes are eight weeks in duration in the evening. They are taught in a remote synchronous environment with the flexibility to use the classroom as needed. This is a unique opportunity to help teach future homeland security professionals, especially those in the uniformed services. The Adult and Online division of Campbell University is a high speed group of professionals who serve the adult learner community in an academically rigorous but supportive environment.

All faculty at Campbell University are expected to be very responsive to student needs and questions. Adult and Online instructors must undergo training and certification before teaching may begin.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage course materials from learning objectives and selected textbook provided by the department chair.
  • Develop and maintain good learning practices.
  • Select and administer tests, assignments and online discussion exercises that permit measurement of performance relative to the course learning objectives.
  • Implement any program assessments as designed by the department or school.
  • Complete Campbell University’s Powell training prior to teaching the course.
  • Evaluate and assess student performance.
  • Post grades on the Blackboard Grade Center as well as Campbell’s Self-Service portal.
  • Maintain professional communications with students and staff at all times.
  • Respond promptly, no later than 24 hours, to student and campus staff emails and requests for assistance.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Be able to obtain and maintain access to the one or more of our military posts (Fort Bragg and/or Camp Lejeune.)
  • Upon hire, obtain knowledge of Adult and Online Education faculty handbook and abide by policies and procedures, including but not limited to attendance reporting, midterm and final grade reporting, electronic submission of course materials.
  • Upon hire, abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including but not limited to FERPA and Title IX.
  • Other job related duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice by the campus leader, Dean or Assistant Dean of Online Education.

Education/Experience:

  • A Master's Degree or above, with a minimum of 18 graduate hours from an accredited university in a Homeland Security realm is required.
  • A PhD in a related field is desired.
  • All graduate work must be documented with official transcripts submitted to the university upon request.
  • Familiarity with FEMA and DHS recognized training and certification.
  • Experience in teaching adult students is desirable.
  • Prior teaching experience in a remote/virtual environment is desirable.
  • Experience working with a learning management system is required.
  • The successful candidate may need to travel to the main campus at Buies Creek, N.C. for an interview, meeting and/or training.
  • Experience in a higher education or non-profit sector desired.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and the Internet.
  • Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with trustees, faculty, staff, students, high-level university officials and the public.
  • Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
  • Exercise independent judgment in complex and new situations.
  • Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented and willing to work in a changing environment.
  • This position demands accuracy, honesty, integrity and the ability to work with the Christian mission of Campbell University.
