JOB SUMMARY:

Provides technical assistance and services to the Adams County agricultural community in the form of assessing natural resource problems and deficiencies. Works closely with the agricultural community and cooperating agencies to develop, update and implement resource management plans. Assists the farm community to minimize accelerated erosion, nutrient runoff, improve farm profitability and productivity and improve local water quality. Annual workload for the position is developed in coordination with the Conservation District’s Agricultural Conservation Technician Supervisor and the Natural Resources Conservation Service’s District Conservationist.

HOURS OF WORK:

The normal working hours are Monday through Friday, 8am-4:30pm, with an hour unpaid lunch (37.5 hours per week full time position). Due to the nature of the position, evening and weekend hours will occur at times.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Educates the agricultural community about the need for Agricultural Erosion and Sedimentation Plans (Ag E & S Plans)/Conservation Plans as well as Manure Management Plans (MMP) in order to be compliant with the state requirements.
  • Assists landowners/operators in developing, implementing, maintaining and revising Conservation Plans.
  • Assists the agricultural community in the planning, layout, engineering, design and implementation of Agricultural Best Management Practices (BMP’s). Verify and document that installed BMP’s meet appropriate standards
  • Administers or assists with completion of necessary paperwork for BMP projects receiving financial assistance.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of cost-share/financial assistance available to the agricultural community and assist them in evaluating options.
  • Acts as a resource for information, as well as an advocate for, no-till production, cover cropping and other agronomic practices that aid in the reduction of erosion and nutrient runoff.
  • Responds to requests for information from the general public, farmers, or public officials. Assists the public with available information from the District office such as aerial photography, soil maps, topographic maps, floodplains, etc.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:

Bachelor of Science degree Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy, Biology, Environmental Resource Management or a closely related field in agricultural or natural resource management. Any equivalent combination of experience and training which allows the person to fulfill the necessary responsibilities and job duties as outlined is also acceptable.

Starting Pay Rate: $19.25/hour
