Wrightsville Beach Brewery is looking to add an Assistant Brewer to our Team! We are a mid-size brewpub located in the coastal North Carolina city of Wilmington. We're rapidly growing and recently built a second location. While we are a full service restaurant, we also brew 20 bbl batches in our production brewery with a wide local distribution footprint. We are poised for further growth and seeking career-focused individuals to grow with us as a company. Job Summary:
Brewer will work under the direction of the Head Brewer and be involved in all aspects of working in a production facility including wort production, fermentation and cellaring, CIP and transfers, centrifuge operation, yeast management, as well as packaging both in cans and for draught. This is a mentally and physically challenging position that requires exceptional motivation and excellent professionalism. The brewer will be safety-minded, efficient, quality-focused, have a great work ethic, a positive attitude and be part of small, efficient, and diverse team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Brewing, transferring, and cellaring beer.
- CIP tanks, cellar equipment and brewhouse.
- Harvest, pitch, and manage yeast.
- Dry-hop and fine beers.
- GEA Centrifuge operation.
- Mill and stage recipes accurately.
- Maintain workplace safety while upholding quality standards.
- Continually lift, drag, carry and manipulate hoses, parts, pumps, buckets and reservoirs.
- Maintain accurate and legible records.
- Sanitation of all beer contact surfaces and equipment.
- Work in a collaborative environment with coworkers to develop seasonal beers, experimental beers, flavor infusions, and barrel aged beers.
- Assist in barrel maintenance, for both clean and sour beer production.
- Packaging in kegs and working on the canning line
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Preferred experience of 2 years in a brewery with 2000+ bbl/yr.
- Ability to multitask and manage time while being detail oriented.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills.
- Strong mechanical background.
- Passion for craft beer and knowledge of the industry.
- Ability to work both independently and within a diverse team environment as a leader and problem solver.
- Ability to work in high pressure situations, while maintaining professionalism and composure.
- Ability to learn quickly and apply new procedures and skills.
- Needs to be self-motivated with strong organizational skills.
- Is generally happy and can have fun, even on high stress and demanding days.
- Reliable transportation.
Physical Demands:
- Standing for long periods of time.
- Frequent walking, bending, twisting, kneeling, climbing, stooping, crawling and crouching.
- Must be able to correctly lift up to 55 lbs to shoulder height and push or pull up to 160 lbs.
- Use of ladders.
- Use hands, fingers, and wrist and maintain fine digit manipulation and must be able to fully extend arms.
- Must be able to maintain adequate vision (with or without corrected lenses). Adequate peripheral vision is also necessary for safety purposes as are depth, distance, and ability to focus.
- In performance of job duties, employee is routinely required to communicate effectively with coworkers and make detailed notes on cellar sheets.
- Physical ability to handle pallets of inventory that weigh up to 2,200 lb. using a pallet jack.
- Must be able to work in hot, cold, wet, loud, and unpredictable environment.
- Must be able to work around steam, electricity, harsh chemicals, and solvents.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks in a production-line setting.
- This position may come into direct contact with hazardous materials such as chemicals, noise and equipment. Hazardous materials include CO2 as well as loud noises as part of the brewing process.
