Overview
The Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) is an independent, non-profit, federally-funded research and development center that provides objective analyses to the Department of Defense and other federal government agencies. The Strategy, Forces and Resources Division (SFRD) performs interdisciplinary analyses of plans and policies related to national security strategy; the structure and capabilities of US, allied and adversary forces; chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear defense; organizational efficiency and management issues; and human capital challenges. Researchers within SFRD provide technical, scientific, and analytical expertise in support of IDA’s work requiring independent and objective research, test, study and analyses of national security issues and related national challenges, particularly those requiring extraordinary scientific and technical expertise.
The Assistant Director supports the Division Director in strategic planning and sponsor engagement, as well as assisting with program administration within the Strategy, Forces and Resources Division. The incumbent will oversee division processes for program execution and review, develop sponsor engagement strategies, with a focus on the Department of Homeland Security and the Intelligence Community, and guide select research programs.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Director with strategic planning and sponsor engagement, including initiation and negotiation of task orders, with an emphasis on the Department of Homeland Security and the Intelligence Community.
- Assist in the planning and management of research programs.
- Manage SFRD research program processes, in alignment with IDA practices.
- Assist with quality control, ensuing research deliverables meet IDA standards.
- Participate in the administration of the division in accordance with the Director’s advice and guidance.
- Assist in implementing and ensuring compliance with corporate policies, practices, and procedures affecting division activities.
- Assist in the performance review process as required by the Division Director.
- Contribute to and/or lead SFRD projects as a Research Staff Member.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- At minimum, requires BS+10 years of experience or MS+8 years of experience or Ph.D. in a discipline appropriate for the position.
- Demonstrated ability to perform independent research
- Proven ability to publish findings and present findings orally
- Able to present ideas, concepts, and theories orally and in writing
- Demonstrated innovative thinking and problem resolution
- Able to work in an unstructured environment and/or on more than one project concurrently
- Able to interact with government or industry representatives
- Travel may be required
- U.S. Citizenship is required
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required
