Full Salary Range: Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full salary range for this position is $29.84 to $56.27/hr. The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $29.84 to $35.92/hr.

Instructional Development is a service organization supporting the instructional mission of the campus. Its activities directly address the major goal in the campus' Academic Planning Statement, "Ensure Excellence in Both Undergraduate and Graduate Instruction". The mission of Instructional Development is to foster a climate for excellence in instruction, which parallels the climate for excellence in research, within a world class institution of higher education. The mission is addressed by following a model which has evolved over the past three decades and is reflected in the organization of the department. We have a substantial impact on the quality of instruction offered at UCSB. We are able to comprehensively and effectively address the needs of a faculty which teaches a tremendous range of subject matter, using a wide array of teaching philosophies, methods, styles, and technologies. The key elements required to support this diversity of faculty needs include: instructional consulting and evaluation; technical media production support; and technical media display support. Brief Summary of Job Duties
The Assistant Hall Manager is responsible for operating, coordinating, and directing instructional support, live performance, and event presentation for the Interactive Learning Pavilion (ILP). Acts as a backup supervisor for major events in ILP. Acts as a consultant to faculty, staff, and student presenters. Provides technical support to other areas of Instructional Development when needed. Acts as Assistant Manager of the Interactive Learning Pavilion (ILP). The ILP has five large lecture halls, three high-technology project-based learning classrooms, and 20 fully equipped smaller classrooms that can accommodate over 2,000 people simultaneously. After the full commissioning of the ILP, the instructional support staff of the ILP will be responsible for ILP operations, as well as classroom support for other General Assignment classrooms in the southeast quadrant of the campus (HFH 1104, Broida 1601 and 1640, LSB 1001 and 1101, Psychology 1902 and 1924, and 387 1011 and 1015; a total of nine additional primarily lecture halls). The Assistant Hall Manager, in coordination with the Hall Manager, directs preparation, execution, and administrative duties for instructional and public events at the ILP, specifically in the late afternoon and evening hours. The Assistant Hall Manager supervises a team of up to 15 student assistant support staff, who assist in the daily operations of the ILP. The Assistant Manager consults with clients concerning all elements of instructional and event support. The Assistant Hall Manager serves as backup support for the Hall Manager. The Assistant Hall Manager Hires, trains, and supervises student employees. Ensures positive client relations by strongly emphasizing customer service.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in related area or equivalent experience and/or training.
- Thorough customer service and consultative skills to identify and implement required technology solutions.
- Thorough understanding of media production methods and equipment and ability to use this information to troubleshoot the most complex systems.
- Ability to assess campus or institutional needs for AV IT technology products and design services to meet those needs.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
- Knowledge of computer, media, and networking technology.
- Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrates problem solving skills.
- Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least two years experience supporting high end educational technology.

Job Functions/Percentage of Time/Duties
- 60% Instructional Support - Provides immediate troubleshooting of issues as they arise in the 28 ILP classrooms, as well as General Assignment classrooms in the surrounding quadrant of campus. Provides training and advice to instructors on technical AV usage and equipment to enhance the quality of instructional or event presentations. Works with instructors to determine requirements for instructional technology and advises on appropriate technology to meet specific instructional activities. Applies appropriate data collection methods to develop technical requirements for events and instruction. Coordinates special programs and projects in educational technology as required by instructional and non-instructional users as necessary. Works with various AV over IP technologies, networks, computer hardware, and software to provide the highest support for instructors using the facility.
- 30% Administrative - Cover Hall operations during the late afternoon and evening hours when the Hall Manager is off duty. Plans and consults regarding the installation of new equipment and equipment upgrades with the Hall Manager. Works with the Hall Manager to develop standards, processes, and procedures to ensure consistent service delivery to clients. In consultation with the Hall Manager, develops user documentation, process improvements, or system design requirements. In consultation with the Hall Manager, applies project management concepts in combination with AV IT policies and procedures in determining the technical support workflow. Assists in researching and evaluating new technologies. Assists in hiring, training, and supervising up to 15 student assistants in providing instructional and event support.
- 10% Consultation - Consults with the Hall Manager and the Classroom Services Manager regarding staffing and equipment needs for instruction and special events. Analyzes current technological trends to prepare for future instructional needs. Works with the Hall Manager, the Classroom Services Manager, and faculty clients to ascertain computer and audio/visual needs and recommend or design systems for their use. Consults and advises Facilities Management representatives on maintenance and upgrades to ILP if the Hall Manager is unavailable.
