Summary of Position: The Assistant Professor of QUEST/MAT is a 9-month tenure-track position in the School of Education at Fairleigh Dickinson University. The successful candidate will have a broad background in education, and is responsible for teaching in-person undergraduate and graduate courses in the dual certification (general education and TSD), and/or the Teacher of Students with Disabilities (graduate second certification) programs. The dual certification program within the 5-year accelerated QUEST program is designed for undergraduates who wish to obtain New Jersey certification in both elementary education and special education. A broad background in education, including P-12 teaching experience, with an emphasis on special education is required.
Responsibilities:
- Teach classes in special education, pedagogy, and theory in the QUEST and MAT program.
- Advise and mentor dual certification teaching candidates.
- Coordination of the Dual Certification and/or TSD program.
- Interface as necessary with adjuncts teaching within the dual certification and/or TSD programs to assure continuity across the programs.
- Contribute to the national visibility and impact of School of Education by conducting research, publishing in peer reviewed journals, and presenting at state and national conferences.
- Develop ongoing relationships with subject matter departments (majors) at the university.
- Develop ongoing relationships with school districts and community organizations.
Required Qualifications:
1. An earned doctorate in Special Education, Disability Studies, or a related field.
2. Teaching experience in culturally and linguistically diverse and inclusive P-12 schools.
3. Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in the dual certification and/or TSD program(s).
4. Strong background in providing support services that prioritize and implement inclusive placement and disrupt disproportionate classification in special education.
5. Established research agenda or potential to develop one.
6. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Theoretical expertise in Disability Studies in intersection with other critical theoretical frameworks in the context of education.
2. Practical experience deconstructing exclusionary systems and practices in favor of culturally affirming and inclusive reforms.
3. Practical expertise and experience in special education, literacy education, universal design for learning, learners with both mild and moderate to severe disabilities, educational and assistive technologies, and/or educational assessment.
4. Practical experience with the areas in the context of racially/ethnically diverse schools and with English language learners. Elementary or early childhood and Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TSD) teaching certifications.
5. Experience using digital technologies to enhance teaching and learning, including teaching courses online.
6. Practical experience coaching educators to provide inclusive pedagogy, curriculum, and decision-making.
