General Statement of Duties
The ADPS guides and monitors students in achieving regular attendance by communicating with parents and transporting students upon notification of absence. When appropriate, the ADPS will support the ADPC in working with local agencies and organizations to develop, implement and coordinate campus-community partnerships designed to address student and family needs in achieving regular attendance.
Nature and Scope
The Attendance and Dropout Prevention Support (ADPS) reports directly to the Attendance and Dropout Prevention Counselor (ADPC). This position is responsible for supporting the attendance efforts of Carver High School. In addition, the position supports the school’s goals regarding attendance that ultimately affect Carver’s dropout prevention and graduation efforts.
Illustrative Examples of Work
- Confers regularly with supervisors, colleagues that provide student and/or family supports, the school principal or designee(s), regarding matters related to student attendance and welfare;
- Participates in the development of department goals and objectives;
- Conducts basic investigations regarding student attendance;
- Communicates directly with the ADPC on issues of attendance for their assigned grade level and takes the appropriate action(s);
- Communicates and collaborates with colleagues regarding matters concerning student attendance and supports;
- Implements attendance prevention policies and procedures as directed by the ADPC and/or the school’s principal;
- Compiles and evaluates data to support attendance and dropout prevention efforts;
- Provides recommendations regarding individual student attendance and dropout prevention based on data;
- Ensures compliance with state attendance laws, district policy and with law enforcement in related matters;
- Administers home visits for students with chronic absences;
- Participates in community forums or discussions related to attendance and dropout prevention as needed;
- Provides transportation for students as needed;
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the ADPC, and/or Principal/Designee.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Youth programs, school and community activities.
- Basic computer skills with applications such as MS Word, MS Excel etc.
- General office procedures and office machines (computer, fax, and copier).
- Correct English/Spanish usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Work well with the community at-large, including parents and students.
- Work effectively with staff members and other community resource personnel.
- Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
- Work closely with students, demonstrating broad understanding, tolerance, and acceptance of them.
- Apply problem solving techniques.
- Effectively organize, manage, and direct the work of others; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Education and Experience
- Possess an Associate’s degree, preferably in a Social Science.
- Successful experience working with youth or education programs.
Special Requirements
- Possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, as outlined in WS/FCS policy.
- This position requires a consistent demonstration of maturity, attention to detail, satisfactory driving record, excellent time management skills, as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills. Being bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus. ADPSs are expected to maintain a high level of professionalism/social responsibility where choices on the job, as well as off the job reflect positively on the school and the entire WSFCS system.
Pay Grade 58 - $2,600 Minimum Monthly Salary - 10 month position
