Barrel Labs relies on a foundational core infrastructure for the creative flexibility and DTC fulfillment capabilities on which our unique revenue segments are built. We’re hiring our first full-time backend engineer to evolve the logic, integrations & data flows, and automations of our software stack to scale with our accelerating sales and accompanying fulfillment needs. As a core member of our team, you will report directly to our head of Core Infrastructure and will collaborate closely with our sales, e-commerce, partnerships, and operations teams.
As Backend Developer at Barrel Labs you will:
- Build unique checkout functionality: build uniform checkout functionality across multiple e-commerce storefronts in compliance with national alcohol requirements
- Integrate order management across custom design requirements: optimize our workflow automations supporting order-specific artwork customization from initial design creation, through approval, and print production
- Integrate order management across production & fulfillment functionality: rebuild our approach to order tracking and editing through production, pick & pack, and shipping
- Optimize data accuracy, analytics, and reporting across the stack: clean and maintain data flows, improve data warehousing, and further leverage data analytics tools to provide business insights across the company
- Entrench software development as a core capability as we grow: expand our development capabilities in lockstep with our other rapidly evolving functions and teams
Your Experience and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer programming, computer science, or a related field
- 5+ years of backend development experience using Java, PHP, or Python
- Excellent foundation in designing algorithms, APIs, etc.
- Strong understanding of front-end technologies and platforms such as NextJS, JavaScript, HTML, React.js, Hydrogen
- Project Management: highly organized with strong attention to detail in both planning and execution; accountable for deadlines and responsive to changes in the environment
- Early-Stage Operating Environment: experienced working at an early-stage company; self-driven and excited to build engineering processes and procedures as the first in-house engineer on our team
- Lifecycle versatility: interested and adept at designing, building, and refining solutions and/or products for evolving business needs
- Cross-Functional and Customer-Centric: passionate about collaborating with various teams to deliver high-impact and well-performing user experiences
- Effective Communication and Teaching: excellent communication skills, allowing you to translate technical concepts and problem-solve with other functions and teams
