Role Summary
The Business Intelligence Analyst works in a fast-paced environment with a high-exposure team whose responsibilities include data analysis, demand modeling and research, optimization, project management, and solution design/delivery. The BI team will translate business intelligence strategy into advanced analytical experiments and models that blend data sources for creative insights into business problems and align performance with the company’s strategic goals, detailed action plans, key performance indicators, and progress metrics. The team also develops and implements systems and technology to produce decision support tools that enable leaders and system practitioners to take strategic action. The Business Intelligence Analyst must be able to develop visualizations grounded in statistical best practices that facilitate effective communication of results and key findings to internal customers.
Key Duties
- In the entry level (Professional 1), under general supervision, you will analyze data and make recommendations for moderately complex business problems and provide input into solutions.
- In the intermediate level (Professional 2) you will use BI principles to analyze data make recommendations to problem solve and implement solutions to complex business problems.
- In the senior level (Professional 3), as a subject matter expert on business intelligence, you will apply deep knowledge and use considerable judgement to determine the approach to ambiguous challenges, exercise considerable judgement to make decisions and influence across the company.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Entry Level – BI Analyst I (Professional 1)
Required
- A Bachelor’s Degree with a focus in mathematics, economics, ops research, finance, statistics, business, computer science, or technical/engineering, or an additional 2 years of training or experience in lieu of this degree.
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of business intelligence functions, including analytics, data mining, reporting, report conversion, data cleansing, data modeling and relational databases.
- Experience with relational databases, nested querying, table design, and complex joins.
- Experience with applied statistics.
- Data-driven mindset and a proven history of continuous self -development.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum age of 18.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Intermediate Level – BI Analyst II (Professional 2)
Required
- 2 years analytical experience.
- A Bachelor’s degree with a focus in mathematics, economics, ops research, finance, statistics, business, computer science, or technical/engineering, or an additional 2 years of training or experience in lieu of this degree.
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of business intelligence functions, including analytics, data mining, reporting, report conversion, data cleansing, data modeling and relational databases.
- Advanced SQL skills.
- Demonstrated experience working with disparate data sources and data blending.
- Adept at dashboard design, charting, and report automation.
- Experience with applied statistics and probability.
- Ability to work well with teams across all divisions.
- Data-driven mindset and a proven history of continuous self -development.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum age of 18.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Senior Level – BI Analyst III (Professional 3)
Required
- 4 years of analytical experience.
- A Bachelor’s degree with a focus in mathematics, economics, ops research, finance, statistics, business, computer science, or engineering, or an additional 2 years of training or experience in lieu of this degree.
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of business intelligence functions, including to analytics, data mining, reporting, report conversion, data cleansing, data modeling and relational databases.
- Advanced SQL skills.
- Demonstrated experience working with disparate data sources, data blending, and advanced database functions (e.g., database management functions).
- Expert in visualization techniques, dashboard design, and decision support tools; experience using data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, etc.
- Modeling proficiency in cluster analysis and linear regression.
- Experience with descriptive and diagnostic statistics, sampling methodology, residuals analysis / ANOVA, and hypothesis / significance testing.
- Ability to work well with teams across all divisions.
- Data-driven mindset and a proven history of continuous self -development.
- Demonstrated project management experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum age of 18.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Salary Range
$67,700 - $154,600 / year
Pay Details
BI 1: $67,600 - 94,700
BI 2: $84,000 - 126,000
BI 3: $93,700 - 140,600
Salary Details
Pay will be based on multiple factors,includingand not limited to relevant experience/level, level of the role and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees.
