TITLE: SERVICE PARTNER
CENTRAL PROCESSING TECH II

JOB OVERVIEW:
Operates steam and gas sterilizers. Prepares items for sterilization process. Performs data entry on two computer systems. Dispenses and recovers patient care equipment. Prepares re-usable trays and instruments for sterilization. Prepares, sterilizes, and transports instruments and equipment for Valley Medical Center.
AREA OF ASSIGNMENT: Central Processing
HOURS OF WORK: Variable
RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Surgical Services or designee.
PREREQUISITES:
Knowledge of sterilizer operations.
Knowledge of quality control testing.
Current certification through IAHCSMM or ASHCSP or obtained within 18 months of hire unless hired before 2000.
Past history of good attendance to VMC standards.
Past history of satisfactory job performance that meets VMC standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Neat and clean with well-groomed appearance.
Able to communicate effectively in a diverse population.
Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills.
Exceptional job and professional references.
Able to work in stressful, fast-paced conditions (as would normally be associated with Surgery).

Lead Responsibilities
Organize and prioritize the tasks and functions of the department in conjunction with central Processing Tech Coordinator for smooth functioning of daily activities.
Schedule staff breaks and lunch periods so adequate coverage is in Central Processing, as necessary in conjunction with the daily schedule.
Assist in developing and communicating new procedures and ability to train staff to Central Processing tasks.
Works with Central Processing Coordinator to identify areas of cost savings, cost avoidance, increase efficiencies both with the CS department and external departments CS interfaces.
Assist in developing monthly work schedule in conjunction with the Central Processing Tech Coordinator and Staffing Coordinator.
Coordinate instrument repairs.
Also functions as a CPII.
CPII Responsibilities:
Conforms to B.S.P. policies and procedures in regards to protective wearing apparel during each assignment.
Conforms to all safety guidelines as written in the policy and procedure manual.
Transports all biohazard products from all areas safely as listed in departmental procedures daily.
Inspects all instruments and reusable items visually and manually. Will isolate all items needing repair.
Prepares all products correctly for sterilization.
Performs correct sterilization method for all products during each cycle.
Provides correct control testing during each designated event.
Process all priority items as written in the policy guidelines.
Prepares all items by designated priority departments and products lists.
Communicates in a positive and effective method both inter/intra departmental.
Responds to various equipment alarms, telephone, or walk-in customers in an appropriate manner.
Delivers all requested orders in a timely manner, or immediately in the case of a STAT request.
Presents a courteous and polite manner when inquiries are made, whether by phone or personal contact at all times.
Keep accurate and complete records as required.
Prepare charge tickets correctly.
Performs correct and appropriate data entry.
Assembles all outpatient supply requests as orders are received.
Provides service and information requests from customer's inquiries daily.
Assists with development or modifications in all supply systems, instrumentation, and services as needed.
Provides correct biological monitoring on all processed orders, instruments, and equipment, during every event.
Accepts training and development in surgical instrumentation pertinent to Valley Medical Center.
Accepts rotating assignments in Central Processing, i.e. prep and pack area, instrument room, decontamination room, and rounding.
Works with high-level disinfectants and cleaning solutions. Some work in areas where ETO sterilant is being used.
