This position works remotely.
Certified Coding Specialist valuates medical records and assigns appropriate clinical diagnosis and procedure codes in accordance with nationally recognized coding guidelines.
Qualifications Required
- High School diploma or GED plus two (2) years medical coding experience; must be certified by an accredited medical coding certification organization (i.e., American Academy of Professional Coders; American Health Information Management Association.)
- Must demonstrate a level of knowledge and understanding of ICD an CPT coding principles as recommended by the American Health information Management Association coding competencies, and as normally demonstrated by certification by the American Academy of Professional Coders
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Must have working knowledge/familiarity to work effectively with common office software, coding software and abstracting systems
- Ability to type approximately 45 wpm
- Understand and maintain confidentiality in accordance with Agency policies
- Ability to work accurately and with minimal supervision
- Ensure data and research are completed in a timely and procedurally correct manner
- Ability and willingness to work with diverse populations
- Willingness to work hours necessary to meet deadlines
- Must obtain and maintain a Fingerprint clearance card and pass a background check
Mental and Emotional
- Mental and emotional requirements include prioritizing workload, decision-making ability, using sound judgment to field inquiries concerning administrative, clinical and operational concerns and ability to greet and deal effectively with participants, families, staff and facility visitors.
Physical
- Long periods of sitting, ability to bend, lift and carry up to 20 pounds, do filing and move equipment.
- Able to operate phone, Fax, copier and a computer.
Qualifications Preferred
- Pediatric coding experience
- One or more years of experience providing coding services for a family practice clinic
- Prior business office or medical records experience
