1) High school graduate or equivalent preferred

CST II
1) High school graduate or equivalent preferred
2) Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
3) 3 + years hospital experience with 1+ years of specialty service experience with advanced competencies in a minimum of 1 specialty determined by hospital. Ex. Orthopedic, Spine, Robotic, Cardiology, Thoracic
4) Demonstrate knowledge of the various surgical equipment and advanced instrumentation
5) Call may be required and must demonstrate basic proficiencies in all service lines
6) BLS
7) Spine and ortho experience preferred
CST III
1) High school graduate or equivalent preferred
2) Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
3) 5 + years with a minimum of 2 years of specialty service experience with advanced competencies in a minimum of 2 specialties determined by hospital ex. Orthopedic, Spine, Robotic, Cardiology, Thoracic
4) Demonstrate superior knowledge of the various surgical equipment and advanced instrumentation
5) Call may be required and must demonstrate superior knowledge and expert practice in the first scrub role in advanced surgical procedures
6) BLS
7) Spine and ortho experience preferred
New Hires will have 60 days to acquire the required Basic Life Support

The Surgical Scrub Technician in the surgical department is a care giver who assists in various types of surgical procedures. The surgical scrub techs principle duties include: 1) Preparing the OR room, supplies, instruments, and equipment for assigned procedures.2) The scrub tech applies principles of sterile technique while performing in the intra-operative setting. 3) Maintains sterile field to promote safety and infection control 4) Ensures all cases are pulled for scheduled procedure 5) Opens sterile supplies for procedures and checks indicators for and integrity of packaging 6) Adheres to Universal Protocol and actively participates in a “TIME-OUT” before each procedure 7) adheres to OR procedures for counting, medication labeling and other scrub duties. 7) Follows AORN recommended practices and guidelines along with surgical services & hospital policies and procedure. Demonstrates knowledge base and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the condition and age of the patients served and the variety of procedures performed. Accomplish other tasks as assigned.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: The Certified Surgical Technologist is under the direct supervision of the circulating nurse during surgery and under the direction of the Surgery Team Lead/Charge Nurse. Administratively reports to leadership following the chain of command as established by reporting facility.
OSHA TASK CATEGORY ONE: There is an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills splashes during the performance of the job. Universal precautions must be observed, and protective devices worn by the employee when performing those tasks likely to cause exposure.
