About the Chief of Staff
Upperline is looking for a motivated Chief of Staff to support our Chief Operations Officer and drive strategic planning, management, and execution as we look to strengthen and streamline our operations infrastructure. This is a hands-on and fast-paced strategy and operations role that reports directly to Upperline’s Chief Operations Officer and Co-Founder. To be successful at this position, you need to be able to think quickly on your feet, be self-motivated, and be extraordinarily organized. You will ensure streamlined activities and strategic planning across the company and provide a key point of leverage for the COO in leading Upperline’s strategic initiatives. This role will contribute to our long-term success by operating at the ground level in terms of understanding the business and its overall execution by bringing a well-rounded mix of strategic thinking and tactical execution to the role. Upperline is looking for strong performers who are comfortable in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment, who can handle tasks both big and small and who can effectively work with a diversity of stakeholders (including doctors and Upperline executives). The Chief of Staff is a highly influential role and a critical team member for Upperline. This position is in our Nashville corporate office.
What You’ll Do
- Strategic planning: assist in managing the company’s strategy and planning process, and meet regularly with the Executive team to set and track goals throughout the organization
- Operational execution: work with the team to execute on key operational initiatives, including leading implementation efforts and being accountable for the success of those initiatives
- Drive performance: drive the execution of strategic cross-functional initiatives, projects, and commitments most important to the Executive Leadership team
- Problem solving: strategically think and understand the intricacies of proposed initiatives, model out solutions to operational problems, flag and communicate issues that arise during an implementation, and hold relevant stakeholders accountable for success
- Analysis: you will build models and complete analysis to forecast the impact of potential changes, manage the progress of key initiatives, and determine the success of critical projects. Data-driven decision-making is part of our culture, and this will be a regular part of your role.
- Cross-functional work: you will coordinate and collaborate cross-functionally with our business operations, clinical operations, M&A team, finance, and strategy, providing a complete view at a high growth business.
- Professional development: with training and mentorship from the COO, you will work closely with the entire C-suite and have significant exposure to a high growth company. You will have the ability to increasingly play a more active role in the wider strategy and operations activities of the company with demonstrated ability and success.
Qualifications of the Chief of Staff
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher
- At least 3 years of experience in management consulting or an operations, strategy, or project management role, preferably in a PE-backed company
- High-growth or early-stage start-up and/or healthcare is a preferred
- Demonstratable success synthesizing complex projects, translating high-level goals into actionable plans, and implementing processes
- Experience executing at the ground level, leading initiatives across diverse teams, and succeeding in a collaborative team environment
- Superior analytical and financial modeling skills, comfortable evaluating problems from a quantitative standpoint and ability to produce a high-volume of analytical output when required
- Advanced Excel and Power Point presentation skills
- Exceptional relationship building skills
