Clinical Research Assistant

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Clinical Unit for Research Trials in Skin (CURTIS) is run under the direction of Maria Alora, MD within the Department of Dermatology. Reporting to Dr Alora, the Clinical Research Assistant is part of a research team conducting clinical trials for novel therapeutics in dermatology. Anticipated responsibilities include assisting with recruitment and interacting with study patients, working with patient data, and maintaining and submitting proper study documentation. Creative thinking, a willingness to learn new software and skills, and the ability to handle multiple projects are expected. Prior research or work experience is preferred.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Collects and organizes patient data
• Maintains records and databases
• Assists with recruiting patients for clinical trials
• Obtains patient study data from medical records, physicians, etc.
• Verifies accuracy of study forms
• Updates study forms per protocol
• Prepares data for analysis and data entry
• Assists with formal audits of data
• Documents patient visits and procedures
• Updates binders; assists with QA/QC procedures
• Assists with interviewing study subjects
• Administers and scores patient questionnaires
• Provides basic explanation of study procedures
• Performs study procedures
• Assists with study regulatory submissions including consent form preparation
• Verifies subject eligibility for studies
• Collects patient specimen, including blood draws and lab processing and shipping

EDUCATION:

• HS Diploma required; some college preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The incumbent will work in a clinical research unit located adjacent to the dermatology clinic in 50 Staniford Street. There will be some walking between the research site, main campus and MEEI.
