Computer Science and Engineering ChairpersonThe chairperson for the Computer Science and Engineering Department is a new position overseeing the creation of curriculum in both areas that will be the first of its kind in the history of Bishop Stang. For Computer Science there is an intent to increase the number of students enrolled as well as to add electives in this area. For Engineering the intent is to create the beginning of a program with an Intro class and then build advanced level classes so that students who have a stronger interest may broaden their understanding through higher level courses. The initial year will be a significant planning phase that will seek to complete the following objectives: Establish the beginnings of a department curriculum in the areas of Computer Science and Engineering.Curriculum Maps of foundation courses as well as a buildout of future courses/electives should be created and finalized in this early phase to provide a vision of what students involved in these classes can accomplish upon graduation. Provide outside of class time pilot opportunities to gauge interest as the curriculum is being createdRecruit students to participate in classes for the 24-25 school year.Participate and assist in finalizing the design of a design concept for the fourth floor of the Academic Resource CenterFinalize cost and scope of project design and construction to begin in Spring of 2024Work with the Advancement Office and President to realize fundraising goals to break ground in late spring 2024 to open a new Innovation Center in Fall of school year 24-25.The following responsibilities below are the primary focuses of the position: Create a bold and rigorous curriculum that will inspire learning in the areas of Computer Science and EngineeringResearch best practices for teaching methods in both areas.Offer insights to architects/planners for development and construction of Fourth Floor Innovative space. Participate and attend all planning meetings. Market programs to students, parents, alumni and donors in the broader community.
Discuss and implement branding strategies. Participate in grant writing opportunities that will help in providing funds for program, space, and equipment/resourcesAttend Professional Development opportunities Make recommendations to the President on equipment and resources needed. Create and oversee the budget in conjunction with the President. Attend all Academic Board Meetings.
Provide regular updates to the Vice Principal of AcademicsAdditional responsibilities identified as needed by the school and approved and/or assigned by the President
