Job Description Summary
This position is grant funded through 06/30/24.The Coordinator of Pathways to Freedom is responsible for oversight and coordination of A-B Tech higher education in prison (HEP) programming. The coordinator is responsible for college communication and collaboration with the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS), the North Carolina Department of Public Safety (NCDPS), and the correctional facilities within A-B Tech’s service area to plan, implement, and oversee programming. The coordinator works with A-B Tech departments to schedule and staff classes and provide services to students within correctional facilities in the service area. The coordinator serves as A-B Tech’s primary representative to the North Carolina Prison Education Consortium.

Duties
1. Serves as the primary contact for local correctional facilities regarding programming needs and challenges (lock downs, discipline, etc.). Serves as primary contact for A-B Tech regarding higher education in prison programming with NCDPS, NCCCS and local correctional facilities. Serves as the primary representative for A-B Tech on the North Carolina Education Consortium.
2. Collaborates with other higher education providers in the service area to provide programming at facilities in the service area, including UNC-A and Warren Wilson College. Collaborates with the Department of Transitional Studies (adult education), Continuing Education and Curriculum to schedule, staff, conduct and evaluate classes. Collaborates with NCDPS and A-B Tech
departments to schedule and complete required training for faculty and staff providing services in the facilities.
3. Collaborates with A-B Tech offices to provide services to students in the programs, including, but not limited to, admissions, orientation, financial aid, registration, purchase of texts/materials, tutorial assistance, advising, career advising, etc. Schedules, plans and holds recognition events, including academic achievement and graduation. Collaborates with A-B Tech departments to develop budgets and procure materials and equipment needed in the respective programs.
4. Collaborates with NCDPS and other correctional facilities to recruit participants for all North Carolina Correctional facilities.
5. Creates and chairs advisory board(s) for the local programs. Collaborates with other service providers in the service area to provide support services for students during incarceration and throughout the re-entry process. Serves as the College representative on local re-entry councils when appropriate.
6. Seeks and maintains external funding for the program, including federal, state, local, and private funding sources.
7. Ensures that data and reports are submitted to the appropriate entity in a professional and timely manner.
8. Contributes to the College Vision, Mission, Values, and RISE statement.
9. Supports workforce diversity in all its aspects.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements (Applicant must meet all of the minimum requirements)
1. Bachelor’s degree;
2. Three years of full-time or equivalent work experience in education/training;
3. Must possess a valid NC Driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Higher education experience.
2. Experience with prison educational programming.
3. Previous involvement with the justice system.
4. Proficiency in a foreign language such as Spanish, an East Slavic language, and/or American Sign Language.
