The Data Analyst at the Yokoyama Lab will report directly to Dr. Jennifer Yokoyama, and will serve as a key team member in the functioning and growth of the wet lab and associated protocols/procedures. This position will have the opportunity to acquire skills and knowledge of professional concepts in research data analysis. This position requires previous basic experience in research analysis, statistical analysis, database design or development, and systems programming as a foundation for success in this role. The Data Analyst will have the unique opportunity for continued professional growth and skillset development through contributions to ongoing critical lab infrastructure in areas such as protocol development, database management and development, and genetic sample management. This position will have the opportunity to be mentored by Dr. Yokoyama, and/or by the highly experienced senior scientific staff members, by working under their direct supervision, and by assisting these individuals with projects in the areas described above. The Data Analyst will also work independently on small projects, or segments of projects, as assigned.

Primary duties include the following:
  • Developing necessary protocols for new wet lab projects.
  • Working with software to develop a framework for sample management and organization.
  • Developing knowledge in areas of storage, documentation, and dissemination of data and samples.
  • Assisting senior staff with:
    • Writing up methods, calculations, and reports.
    • Preparing data for analysis.
    • Organizing and managing genetic samples.
    • Other tasks as assigned.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Acquiring knowledge of research function. Acquiring ability to perform research analysis duties
  • Acquiring statistical analysis, systems programming, and database design skills to perform research analysis duties
  • Ability to effectively manage time and see assigned parts of projects through to completion on deadline
  • Excellent verbal and written communications and presentation skills; excellent organizational skills; and excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively in a diverse team
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Windows
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based environment; project management and coordination skills; ability to prioritize tasks and meet multiple deadlines on concurrent projects
  • Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with colleagues and collaborators
  • Basic related scientific techniques and procedures as learned from academic laboratory or field experimental experience
